We are thinking to go on holiday next year to Miami; probably september 2013. It is not sure but probably you can advice. If september 2013 isn't the best time in case of huricanes, then we will visit Miami in the beginning of 2014.
Hopefully you have some links of hotspots of Miami. Where do we have to stay if we will decide to visit Miami. We were thinking to stay there for let's say 14 days. Hopefully you can advice

Well we haven't had hurricanes pass by here in a long time.. years actually. That all can change of course but for now climate seems going in the same direction. Let's see once you get closer to the date how the weather is!
I'm sure other Miami forumers will be glad to help you with all of those hotspots and advice!

I think late autumn is the best time to visit Miami. Hurricane season is ending and it hasn't started to get really cold yet (not that it happens often here in Miami). In January, you run the risk of visiting at the same time a cold front is moving through and that could put a damper on your visit.

Democratic Republic of Beer.
If he stayed anywhere close to downtown or the metromover he DEFINITELY won't need a car to get to it. BTW, does anyone know if they are leaving/have left their old Adrian Arscht location for the one on NE 1st Ave and NE 5th St or just expanding there also? The 2 locations seem kinda close and I know the old location was WAY too small for the crowd they would attract on weekends. Then again, in Brickell theirs three Publix's in a 6 block radius of each other and all are packed every night so the are definitely has the density to support multiple of a chain. |

That building on the Arsch center is going down soon when Espacio builds their new building. The move was in preparation for it.

You two sound like my kind of tourists. No interest whatsoever in the club scene (which I also think is overhyped crap).
As far as the craft beer thing, I'm a geek with it and work in a place that specializes in it (albeit 1200 miles away) so I'll certainly defer on this one. What I can say is that it's not really a great beer town--yet--with very little of the kind of intensive local brewing/very specific selection you may have found in 'crafty' cities but like everywhere else it's taken a significant uptick recently. Truly local brews are pretty sparse and VERY hit-or-miss, but the beers coming out of Cigar City (Tampa) have been excellent lately and even though you can find their stuff all over these days you might(?) see it featured more at some places down there. Other guys here may know better on that front. One day with a car and Key West is the plan? Don't even bother with the Everglades--at least in my opinion. Key West is a full day (you're going to spend a third of it driving) and trying to squeeze the Glades into that would just be too much with little return for the effort. I would just leave early for KW and spend the whole day there. Walk it, too, and get off Duval Street. Key West's real charm is just strolling around the side streets and hitting little dive bars where actual LOCALS drink---and assuredly are not listening to Jimmy Buffett on the jukebox. If you do one 'touristy' thing the Hemingway House is pretty chill and you get the added bonus of a colony of six-toed cats on the grounds. While in Miami do yourself one favor. Eat some good Peruvian food. Because I gotta tell you, it may just be the most underrated cuisine in the world and aside from NYC Miami is one of the very few places outside Peru itself where you can find a great version of it. Not saying don't eat Cuban--you SHOULD (Islas Canarias--hint, hint)--but a lot of that stuff you can find all over these days. Peruvian is the freaking BOMB though. A truly exotic and amazing cuisine. Hey, whatever you do just enjoy your trip! You sound like a cool couple. |

Beer spots in Sobe:
The Abbey Brewing Co. on 16th st. near Alton Rd. a must see. Rio Station on Lincoln Rd. formerly Zeke's. Kill Your Idol on Espanola Way just off Collins, try a Swamp Ape and go from there. I just mentioned it in another thread, Abraxas is away by itself in a house on Meridian and 4th. If its still open The Room on 1st and Collins packs a lot of good beers per square foot. I nice bar run by Spanish kids (young adults from Spain to clarify) is Clandestino on the 700 block of Washington Ave. The best rum selection in town is at Havana 1957 at the corner of Washington and Espanola Way. For a low key environment and a great cocktail go to the Broken Shaker in the Indian Creek Hotel at 2727 Indian Creek Drive. Your dive bar selection includes Ted's Hideaway, Free Spirits, Dewey's Tavern, and Mac's Club Deuce. The dare you to find them spots are The Fox Hole and the VFW. If you like pool or ping pong go to Chalk. The best Irish Whiskey selection is at Clarke's. Friday happy hour at Monty's. I spend a lot of my time at The Playwright Irish Pub. There is a great group of restaurants in the Sunset Harbor neighborhood such as Pubbelly and Beer & Burger joint. Walk through the Delano Hotel from the front door to the back of the pool, even if you don't stop to get a drink.
