Roundabouts in the country may look nice but lack proper design or pavement markings. Did a little research on these and found this on DPWH's manual on Road Signs and Pavement Markings.

Here's the link to the said manual from DPWH's website. http://www.dpwh.gov.ph/pdf/highways%...20Standard.zip This not only contains proper markings for roundabouts but for every kind of intersection and road category. Also includes how signages should be made, proper location etc. Very interesting read. I suggest everyone to browse through it and compare its implementation on our roads. I think its time we demand for properly designed and safe roads.

This is a helpful guide. Hopefully, all the roundabouts in our country strictly follow these design regulations.

Two smaller roundabouts in Manila: the Gagalangin (in Tondo) and Philippines-Thailand Friendship (in Santa Ana) Rotondas.

However, following modern nomenclature, these are more properly called traffic circles (older-style roundabouts popular in the U.S.) rather than roundabouts, since they have pedestrian access points. Modern roundabouts do not have pedestrian access.

Both images are from Wikimedia Commons.

That's Maysilo Street.
If you look in the streetdirectory map, and EDSA as your guide, it is bounded in the east and west by Boni Avenue, San Francisco street in the south(if you are going to Makati); and Martinez street in the north(goin to Shaw Blvd).

another not so roundabouts, but ala-circle type way, in Barangay Marikina Heights, Marikina City

Nung Sabado ko lang din nalaman, papunta kami ng Eco Park... Proyekto yun ng MMDA bilang alternatibo sa U-turn slots. In fairness, maayos ang landscape ng rotonda.

With the DPWH publishing the guidelines in road standards of the PHL, it makes me wonder right now why it is not followed? Is it because the District Engineers are not aware of this? Or, there is no penalty involved if it is not followed? Or, are private developers given the leeway to do their own work?

Wouldn't it be nice if we have traffic circles/roundabouts with water fountains in the middle just like these?

I can see there is the Webber Wentzel Bldg. in the 2nd pic (far right). I think, that's in Johannesburg, South Africa!
