Yes, it is the shortest connection from Trivandrum to Bangalore and Chennai as well as the North South Corridor as of now.

I am not sure whether it will be touching at Nanguneri, but there is road proposal from Kattakada-Kottoor-Ambasamudram-Tirunelveli. You might have heard that this road was built during the Travancore era and has now become defunct. It is said that about at least 70km will be less to Tirunelveli, that means the distance would be halved, going across the ghats rather than around it.

So you are aware about all these locations, nice to hear about this. My home where I lived till 2008 as well as my new home which I constructed recently are in this Thiruvallom-Kaimanam road, just about 200m from NH 66 (Kaimanam Jn).

This road is presently only about 8m, there are plans by TRIDA from last few decades to make it a 21m four lane one, and recently it was said to be a component of the Outer Ring Road planned.

There is a long pending project of roads connecting in trivandrum between the kovalam bypass and the kaliyikkavila. The project was estimated 10 years back, but still doesn't happen. If the project happens, then it will be one of the most achievement for trivandrum. The main advantage of this is, Balaramapuram traffic block will be reduced to a certain extend

Drive to Kovai - From Malappuram side

Which route is in good shape after the Palakkad Byepass ? The one through Pollachi or the Walyar one which was horrible some time back. Planning to reach palakkad byepass by 7:AM

No better route than Walayar NH. While proceeding from Chandra nagar, Palakkad ,keep an eye on the incoming traffic flow. If traffic seems to be regular and everything looks fine, proceed. Else there may be a traffic mishap at Walayar. The alternate route through Kozhinjam para- Velanthavalam may take 30 min extra.
