FF CRUZ dry dock

First floating dock ever designed

and built in the Philippines, jointly by Engr. E.S.

Sarmiento
, Naval Architect and Iloilo Drydocking

Yard, Iloilo City
. Its lifting/carrying capacity

is good for 1200-ton light displacement of

coastwise vessels. The newly-constructed floating

dock started its operation first week of December

1997 and has serviced 12 interisland ships already

for repairs, further, employed about 220 engineers,

technicians and skilled workers of Iloilo City

residence. Moreover, the said Iloilo floating dock

helps in solving the lack of drydocking facilities

in Western Visayas.

Negros Navigation Acquisition of Aboitiz Transport Corporation
KGL Investment Port Fund announces Aboitiz Transport System acquisition

KUWAIT: The Port Fund of KGL Investment Company announced on Sunday that its portfolio company Negros Navigation Company, Inc., a Philippines domestic shipping and port company, has entered into an agreement with Aboitiz Group, being the controlling shareholders of Aboitiz Transport Systems Corporation (ATS), under which it intends to acquire up to 100 percent of the outstanding common shares of ATS and commence a tender offer in the Philippines for all such common shares, for the Peso equivalent at closing of 105 million US dollars in cash. This was announced in a press release on Sunday.

The Port Fund is a KGL Investment Company sponsored Caymans' private equity fund focusing on ports and relfaated logistic opportunities in the developing world. It was established in late 2007 and since then The Port Fund has successfully shown 20 percent annual returns on its investments in spite of the financial crisis. Key shareholders of The Port Fund represent all Gulf countries.

photo_1This acquisition was made possible by a significant investment in The Port Fund's company Negros from China-ASEAN Marine B.V., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of China-ASEAN Investment Cooperation Fund (CAF).

CAF is a private equity fund sponsored by the China Export-Import Bank, one of the largest international credit and investment institutions in the world. CAF targets investment opportunities in the 10 ASEAN countries, focusing on logistic, infrastructure, energy and natural resources. The establishment of CAF, a $10 billion dollar Fund, was announced by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in 2009.

Saeed Dashti, Chairman of KGL Group and Zhu Xinqiang, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CAF inaugurated a signing ceremony. Xingiang said that this joint acquisition is a first and very important transaction of CAF since its establishment. In addition to being a CEO of CAF, Xingiang is also a Vice-President (VP) of China Export-Import Bank. Dashti emphasized on the importance of China in world economics. He also said that this partnership between such prominent Chinese Fund and Kuwaiti Port Fund is a first step towards many new ventures in future.

Marsha Lazareva, Managing Director of KGL Investment Company, Mark Williams, Investment Director of The Port Fund and Michelle Lui, Managing Director of CAF played essential role in developing the relationship and closing the transaction.

With over 200 years of combined experience, the acquisition brings together two well-established and respected names in the Philippines domestic shipping industry. Negros Navigation currently operates eight vessels and serves 13 ports of call. ATS, the owner and operator of Superferry, 2GO, Cebu Ferries and Supercat, operates 18 vessels, a combination of ro-pax, fast ferries and freighters, and has 19 ports.
