Not officially announced yet, but first Air Koryo's Antonov An-148-100B, P-671, has been delivered.

Here you can playback its flight Kyiv - Pyongyang:

I want to fly on an IL-62 while sitting in the seat right in front of the engines, which is my favorite seat on the MD-80.

Same with me. The seat near the engines is really good one but with Sovyet/Russia's one is different story maybe it's another experience

It's assembled in Kyiv, Ukraine and designed by the Ukrainian Antonov Design Bureau! This one is Ukrainian!

It's Antonov An-148 designed by the Ukrainian Antonov Design Bureau and produced by Ukraine's Kyiv Aviation Plant AVIANT. Antonov has also outsourced production to Russia's Voronezh Aircraft Production Association.

My guess is they want to attract more customers from the west and Westerners arent exactly thrilled about riding a plane made by russians. My guess.

If true definitely unfair standard.

The bad reputation of the Russian aviation does play a role but the main reason is that there's a lot of competition in this market segment and that the competing aircraft from Embraer, Bombardier and the others are simply better in terms of performance and economics.

No offense guys, but why do you keep on writing all the time Russian Aviation , while it's not Russian?

It's Ukrainian! As I already said - it was designed by Ukrainian Antonov Design Bureau and produced by Ukraine's Kyiv Aviation Plant AVIANT. And Ukraine is independent country.

Please, don't refer to An-148 as Russian aviation . It's offensive.

Let me be honest. I initially thought myself that Antonov was also of Russian origin because it is indeed a Russian name. However, I took the time to listen to Equario through FB that Antonov is a Ukrainian aircraft because it is built near Kiev... Thanks for your info and clarification, Equario!

Here's my take too on Air Koryo: I understand that it has been operating mostly Soviet-, Russian-, and Ukrainian-built aircraft (with Tupolev and Antonov), and many complain that its aircraft are very old and noisy. However, it is basically the only way to get into and out of the Hermit Kingdom because of its closed-off borders that make land travel extremely difficult (except if one travels by rail)... And while Air China operates Beijing—Pyongyang, Air Koryo provides sufficient services to a handful of destinations other than Beijing alone. It's just that it is owned by the government, and hopefully that now the leadership has changed, it will soften its stance on nationalism and allow more foreign investments to pour into the country by allowing more journeys to nearby nations.

a brand new aircraft for Air Koryo? Looks like the N Korean government is finally easing its travel stance and it is now purchasing newer aircraft at long last to replace its older, Soviet-built fleet. Hopefully, it will mean expanded domestic services.

The main reason to add new produced planes is the same reason why all other airlines in the world replace old planes. The An 148 replaces the Tu 134 and maybe An 24. For both types, the maintenance isn't becoming easier, spares are more and more difficould to get. China announced to ban the noisy planes, Russia stated a deadline to withdraw the old birds from service. There is just a need for Air Koryo to purchase new a/c.
