Is 'scouseness' a higher state of consciousness?
What are the things that define scouse?
For example is it being able to read between the lines, not being naive - is it a 'higher state of consciousness' - not exactly cynicism but acceptance of a reality that isn't detected as easily by other 'peoples' Do we 'see' things that other don't? are we more locked into our intuition and sub-conscious? Scouser's fall into the subset of 'northerners' i.e. friendly and warm compared to the south, but I'm trying to define this as a state of consciousness - for example a hippy would be laid back, easy going, peaceful etc.

Allen Ginsberg, poet, described Liverpool as a centre of consciousness in the 60's.

Fair points - I guess being a troll is a state of mind too. Making others feel like c***s is part of that. Also its a teenager type reaction.
Was just trying to learn something from my fellow human beings - not trying to invite everyone to be a twat.

What are the things that define being English?
What are the things that define being English?
For example is it being able to seek fair play, be objective, support the under dog, bravery in the face of overwhelming odds ?

They English certainly like to characterise themselves as such. However, to pick two example, the Americans and Australians also talk about exactly the same virtues as being theirs. Maybe everyone does....

I'd like it if some badass nation of lowdown rotters liked to boast of their definng characterics as being unfairness, a tendency to side with the bully, intolerance, dishonesty, cowardice and pusillanimity in the face of threats. That is the opposite to the list of virtues that so many nations claims as their own. Be probably right as well as that's the nature of the human beast.

Being scouse means you are everything that is wrong in Liverpool. The piece in the Echo about Scouse vs Liverpudlian sums it up nicely.

Its interesting in itself that if I had posted this thread in another countries forum we may have been able to have a debate...

![]() That's essentially true. I think there's some confusion about a 'sense' of identity and true self awareness ,which can only come about through concentrated mediatation. Meditation should be introduced into all primary schools imo. Ormskirk has one of only two shools in the country where the children meditate twice daily.
