Parang hindi at parang nasa Pinas
Whenever I see people saying this about something in the Philippines, I cringe. Why is it that every time some people see something nice in the Philippines, they say that it's not like being in the Philippines? To me, it's just putting down our country by saying that. I know that most of the Philippines is not fully developed like in other countries, but we have to realize that that's just the way it is. The Philippines is a multi-faceted nation with areas that are stricken with poverty, but there's also parts that are very nice. If every time we see a nice highway or a masterplanned city, and we say something offensive to the country like "parang hindi sa Philippines", we will just help the inferiority complex linger on. How about when we see something beautiful and nice, we just say "that is world class" instead of saying that?
Am I the only one who feels that way when they see a comment like that? To those who say it, don't you think you're putting down the country by saying that? Let's be more respectful of our country and not put it down.

You beat me to creating this thread.
But I think people say that coz it's true. lol. Coz whenever we get a nice project, another country beats us to their completion of a similar project because of the opposition that are slowing the project down.

Some people are simply awestruck by what they saw as something that is new in the Philippines, and not the Philippines they encounter before or something that they knew back then. Trust me, I bet many of them felt proud that what they saw is a symbol of progress. It's much better than saying: Only in the Philippines.

I myself am guilty of this..
I saw this photo of a dam in Cebu and my first reaction was, is this really in Cebu? What comes into my mind when speaking of Cebu or any other Philippine island is coconut trees and other flora and fauna typical of an island in a tropical country like the Philippines.. Photo by Zidlakan

Most of time the Philippines is being misconcepted to being just plain rural or not capable of having a great scenery, environment, infrastructure blah blah blah to the extent that when someone sees a good picture of the Philippines and is captioned to be located in the Philippines we tend to say 'Parang hindi sa Pilipinas', which I'm also guilty about. It's just sad that the country is misrepresented to everyone. They just find it hard to believe that something beautiful is found in there because we are all blindfolded by negativities being splattered all over the world about the country and we tend to think that that's all the Philippines can offer. Which is actually unfair.

![]() Maybe because we're used to seeing what a usual tropical country should be so perhaps we have this tendency to say "parang hindi sa Pilipinas.." Normal lang cguro because those who haven't been to our country yet will find our republic beautiful.. Of course if we show a photo of USA or CANADA with coconut trees and abaca, white sand beaches, etc. then they'll say.. "wow ang ganda, parang hindi USA o Canada!!" ![]() .. |

I'm not talking about when people talk about the landscape. I'm saying when someone sees a picture of Makati, BGC, or a highway and they say "Parang hindi sa Philippines!" It's like they're saying that it's hard to believe that the Philippines can have such things.

Well as I said we have a misrepresention to the eye of the world - that we're still struggling when it comes to infrastructures and the likes. Partly due to negative exposure of the country to the world. Everytime you turn on your TV it's either a calamity or terrorism or insurgency that headlines the news tagging along w/ it the name of the country. I say, blame it on media.
...Or maybe there are just those people that are really blatantly ignorant and they don't have a tad bit of idea what the heck are they talking about.

We've seen most of the ugly sites in Pinas since those are the things the dominantly surround us. But it is more of a relief or just to feel good on things that we haven't seen before. Even those lovely faces and young kids nowadays are quite different than before.
ganyan yung pangarap ko sa likuran ng bahay namin.
