That's the one! The core of downtown Baguio was laid out by noted American architect Daniel Burnham sometime in the 1910s when the USA had taken over from Spain. The American governor-general then needed a cooler place to stay in the summer than Manila, so they picked this small town in the mountains about 4 hours north of Manila to be the "Summer Capital."

The legacy of those days includes a "Summer White House," Camp John Hay (where American military officials used to go to for R&R) and the downtown park called Burnham Park.

Even if it's a nice city with nice buildings, nice shops, nice cathedral, nice opera (and I can also add nice football stadium), I'm not thinking of Nice

How nice is "nice"? That's a relative term.

Paris? New York City? Barcelona?

I think Il Duomo of Milan is actually an ugly cathedral; and I wouldn't rate their stadium among the 10 "nicest" of Europe. Many other bldgs in Milan (especially La Sforza Castle) are also quite ugly in my opinion. La Scala is more famous than "nice." It's actually very cramped inside.

Anyway...
