During the MIPIM 2012 Trade Fair, BBI Development will unveil its vision of a new high-rise project in the very heart of Warsaw.

BBI Development, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Warsaw and St. Barbara’s Parish, intends to execute a new high-rise building project within the plot located at the junction of Emilii Plater and Nowogrodzka streets in Warsaw’s Śródmieście district.

“Our goal is to create a building of premium architectural quality, distinguished by its elegant form, moderation and functionality,” says Michał Skotnicki, President of BBI Development. The structure is to become one of the most prominent elements of Warsaw’s cityscape.

The special purpose vehicle established in order to complete the project will create a building with an overall usable surface area of ca. 55,000 m2, rising to a height of ca. 180 metres. It will also be responsible for its commercialisation and sale. The preliminary urban design has been prepared by Juvenes – Projekt.

And here is an older article about the project posted by me in the

It has been cancelled for an indefinite time after the economic crisis.
The tower will surely rise, but probably as an office tower and with a new design.

Too bad. It was my favorite tower in Warsaw. I really like the Hadid's design.

On Polish forum we had rather... mixed opinions about it some didn't like this bloby shape, others pointed out that it ignores the surroundings so it's bad planning. On some better renderings you can see that it supposed to rise from below the street level as if the tower was somehow buried under the ground.

lilium had one advantage compared to bbi development tower - it wasn't boxy-shaped(and height of course ), as bbi tower is. in my opinion warsaw lacks unique-shaped building. probably just palace of culture, zlota 44 and probably rondo r1

Please, no. Warsaw has an oldschool-style skyline and it should stay like that.

Bit of a disapointment. But how do you know it will be re-designed?
The Poles I guess do not like for things to stand out too much which annoys me. I like creative designs and believe that architecture should push the boundaries. That was a futuristic design and would have been great for the city.

Buddy, you're too conservative. This mentality does not belong in architecture and design. What would NYC and Chicago look like now if their local authorities adopted this thinking? Edmonton?

Well, the initial plan for the project was to built a luxury apartment tower - this was the period when the city was on a large demand for luxury apartments and stuff, but then came the economic crisis and this kind of investments turned out to be unprofitable. Only Zlota44 and Cosmopolitan passed through the crisis and are being built. Lilium changed the plan to re-design the tower to an office tower, wich would be more profitable.

New skyscraper planned for downtown Warsaw

Developer BBI Development NFI revealed a preliminary architectural design of a new office high-rise building that it will build in central Warsaw at the MIPIM 2012 international property fair in Cannes, France, last week.

The scheme, which the company will develop in partnership with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Warsaw and St. Barbara’s Parish, will be located at the intersection of the capital’s ul. Emilii Plater and ul. Nowogrodzka.

The investment, which has been designed by Juvenes – Projekt, is expected to rise approximately 180 meters tall and comprise some 55,000 sqm of usable space. Warsaw City Hall has already granted its approval for a high-rise structure at the site.

“Our goal is to create a building of premium architectural quality, distinguished by its elegant form, moderation and functionality,” Michał Skotnicki, president of BBI Development’s management board, said in a statement.

A preliminary investment agreement between BBI and the Warsaw Archdiocese was signed in August last year. A special-purpose vehicle set up by the entities will be responsible for the development, leasing and sale of the property.

Warsaw Stock Exchange-listed BBI Development NFI is currently also involved, together with Liebrecht & Wood, in the construction of the Plac Unii mixed-use high-rise building in the Polish capital. Planned projects of the developer include the Nowy Sezam scheme in central Warsaw.

But almost every new tower in NYC (Im glad of that) is still pretty conservative...
Anyway maybe I wasn't plain enough - I'm talking about good, solid architecture. It may have this shape:

Or It may look like that:

Or that:

It's fresh, but still matches the citie's skyline, unlike mentioned here roundy Lilium Tower:

It would be good for asian cities, but not here.
Above that It has no ground level... I'm surprised that you can't see all this... After all you live in Toronto
I'm almost sure Hadid wasn't even in Warsaw before drawing this project - It is absolutely out of context. And I really can't understand why she is so prominent and respected. For me she is some kind of Lady Gaga of architecture

This Frankfurt tower is great! Even better than BBI's project - slimmer and lighter

Well, what can I say? I find Toronto mostly unimaginative (but it's getting better). I think it is a matter of taste and I just think that this building was unique and would have stood out. Anyways, we will see what happens.
