Masshouse Phase II | Priory Queensway | App (Outline)

Well it has been a long time coming folks, but it looks like we are starting to see movement on the next stages of Masshouse which Nikal are dubbing 'Phase II'. General topic for news, rumours and renders running up to the planning application stages.

Masshouse Phase II, Birmingham

Following the successful completion of Masshouse Phase I – the Hive residential scheme - Nikal is now focusing on the development of their mixed-use site on the adjacent plot.

Masshouse Phase II is within Birmingham’s Enterprise Zone and will bridge the gap between expansion of the city core and HS2.

The site comprises of 600,000 sq ft of office accommodation, complimentary retail and leisure space and a 200-bed hotel.

With planning consent secured, a cleared site, and infrastructure already in place, Nikal is creating Birmingham’s newest extension to the business district.

ANOTHER HOTEL??? I understand that there is a need for them in the city, but come on, surely not this many.

6000 hotel rooms aren't a massive amount for a city the size of Birmingham also hs2 runs near we'll be getting alot more overnight stays

Potentially yes brum, but not a sure fire thing, plus they may be scaled back. Cheers to Erebus for the heads up in the main development thread:

I received an e-mail earlier from an old colleague, basically in response to a query I had about the plans for Masshouse. It seems things are moving again on the office side of the site again as there's some confidence that the Magistrates Courts may start moving again, however he said that there's a strong suggestion that the scale of courts is now being reconsidered - which translates to me that they're looking to downsize the original courts plans.

No mention of timescales or when we might hear news... I guess we've just got to continue watching this space.

I thought that, but since I asked the question, got a reply, I realised, yeah we do need more hotels if we are to be a 'big city'.

I also think we need more attractions other than the best shops (and shopping centres) in the UK being in brum. VTP would have been fantastic. We'll have to come up with something else. Any ideas on here?

As in outline and "Planning consent approved", does that mean they can start this soon, or does it have to go through a whole load of alternate planning perm?

needs full planning permission i would assume.

Yup outline permission, no reserved matters yet. Will be phased the same as the other plot I'd imagine.

Not necessarily. the outline has confirmed the uses and parameters. rm can still be problematic depending on the details and objections

Loving how clean and straight-lined these are - the louvred windows on that block are superb. So much to look forward to all over town - we just need to get these going.
