British American Investment Company has announced plans to invest in the property market across East Africa and South Sudan as part of its regional expansion strategy.

The move comes seven months after it offered shares for sale in an Initial Public Offering last year, which managed a 60 per cent subscription rate.

Speaking at the opening of a branch at Barclays Plaza in Nairobi on Thursday, Mr Benson Wairegi the group’s managing director, said the East African property market presents huge opportunities, which it is banking on to penetrate and diversify investments across the region.

“We are looking to venture into property investment across the east African region as one of the entry points in such a market with a huge potential,” Mr Wairegi said.

Without revealing the cost of the roll out process, he said the plan would begin with the setting up of a landmark point in Upper Hill, Nairobi, where the firm expects to put up the tallest ultra-modern building in the area.

“We are in the stages of costing, but it will most likely be the tallest and most modern building in Upper Hill,” Mr Wairegi said.
