Okay, that makes much more architectural sense. It seems to fit that building better than the tower itself.

We haven't seen any street level renders from that side have we? I'm very curious what they're planning on doing with this old building (how much will be preserved and how much will be re-done entirely) and if they're maintaining it more or less as-is, what function it will serve. It definitely doesn't look like a building suited for multi-million dollar condos.

Yes it will be located at the 58th street side, an older version of that rendering of the driveway were posted some months ago. That building I don't think they will alter much on the exterior, most work would be on the interior were I guess it will be completely redone. The most expensive units will be in the tower, but they can perfectly can remodelate that building and make some high-end units, though not as much as the tower ones.
I quote myself of a picture I posted before, were you can see the original facade of the 58th street building, and how the windows matches exactly the driveway, even both entrances of the driveway are already existing on that building.

They will demolish the first floor plate and make the driveway double height.

With that picture of ILNY, I think it is safe to say this buildings is U/C already and move it to that section.
That wall would be the wall of the multy-storey atrium facing 57th Street.

Since a retaining wall that is part of the building's foundation is being built (you can see installed rebar ready for pour), I believe this building is officially now "Under Construction"

You mean it totally fits with the design if the exterior, yes?

Everytime i see the small plot i wonder how normal it's today to build such an huge building.
Since the run in dubai and china buildings over 400m are almost commonplace...not so long ago when the willis tower was on top of the list this one would be the second tallest building in the world. Today it's one of many 400m+...but a very nice and unique one
Especially in new york i would appreciate more art deco buildings like this one.

400m+ surely ain't commonplace. By 2018, New York will have the most 400m+ towers the roof (5). And I'm not even talking about future 400m+ projects like 1 Vanderbilt or 2WTC which will likely be finished by 2020. Then NYC will have 7! Chicago (1), Shanghai (2), Hong Kong (2), Shenzhen (2), Guangzhou (2) and Dubai (3) are or will be behind New York. People, especially on a skyscraper site, need to get their facts straight.

For 400 + towers, by 2018 there will be 1WTC (already completed) 432 Park (T/O and nearly completed) and Nordstrom and Steinway (both beggining construction) Which would be the fifth building over 400 meters in NY by 2018? (because the last information is that 125 Greenwich/22 Thames rumored to be be over 400 meters before, will, in fact, be lower than 400 meters)

I still can't get over how small this footprint is. They can barely fit two excavators in there, and they intend to build a supertall. Insane engineering right here.

Yeah, they literally plopped the "tallest freestanding crane in the history of NYC" and were like "Here you go!"
