I I've read that, but I don't think they are well informed... In such a huge city there must have been lots of taller free standing cranes, just in my little hometown of 60.000 inhabitants I have seen a crane of similar height, or even a bit taller for a 16 (+3 underground) floor hotel, it was fully erected when the construction was at foundation stage.

i think the people who put the crane up are better informed than some small town guessing.

Maybe I am the only one, but I have mixed feelings about the new skyline coming. The towers look all good, but the skyline has too many (ultra-) thin reaching in the sky. I looks weird to me... especially in pic 2

Thin, tall towers piercing the skyline: Well, that's actually the original New York skyline before fat boxes destroyed it.

Once East Midtown gets rolling, there will be a handful of massive office buildings north of Grand Central. Even along Park Ave in the 40s and low 50s, there are some hilariously underdeveloped lots, to speak nothing of all the larger, 40+ years old buildings.

Well, I as a New Yorker must disagree... the skyline was never destroyed.

Beautiful building. Love the future skyline renderings. New York is going back to what it was before the 70s and 80s.

Maybe not destroyed, but definitely covered up. There is a hidden, byzantine cityscape unique to the world hidden deep in the canyons of Manhattan.

I am greatly in favor of all this lets hope most if not all of these get built, before this particular cycle of skyscraper building ends. Also what is that building on the far east-side just south of the Ed Koch Queensboro? I don't think I know anything about it.
