Dang. That's higher than I thought it would be. That's only 55 feet smaller then Central Park Tower!

This is the second time I'm hearing of this 1,495' figure. If true, that would be utterly amazing having two 1,500 footers so close to each other.

Maybe that's the sea level height? Either way it's great...

"It's quite a production—about 1,495 feet high and 58 feet wide, so it's too thin to kill any of the trees in Central Park." William Sofield

Lol! Perhaps! But given that many of the developers are using "dummy heights" in their filings, you never know.

It seems that this thing keeps rising and rising height wise. It started as a mere 700 footer that could end up being more then twice as tall as it was originally intended. What a story of a skyscraper, uhm i mean supertall.

I posted the article link for that 1495-foot reference back in December (link below, also with "sellout" graphic showing the expectations regarding sales in these new towers). I'm still not buying that figure as the height of the tower. The JDS website still says 1428 feet. As suggested above, it's possible that the interior designer saw a blueprint saying something close to "1495" as the highest point in relation to sea level. The Steinway tower is located on fairly high ground, at about 60 feet above sea level.

111 W 57th website still says "1428 feet":

http://www.111w57.com/

JDS website says just "over 1400 feet":

http://jdsdevelopment.com/111-west-57th-street/

While it would be even more amazing to see the tower nearly 1500 feet tall, this building is rising on a base of 58.75 X 79.25. That's slightly more than half (.53) the area per floor of 432 Park Avenue. True, 432 Park doesn't taper as it rises, unlike 111 W 57th, but there must be limits to how high a functional tower can go based on a base of only 4,600 square feet.

Here's an image from the JDS Instagram site showing some of that designer's work for 111 W 57th:

"Inside the breathtaking 111w57 designed by Bill Sofield"

It is possible that he spoke in err. Maybe he meant 1,395'. BUT, many developers have been keeping their heights underwraps as of late. They have "dummy filings", this could be the case here, and Mr. Sofield let the cat out of the bag.

I'm fairly certain developers aren't able to do dummy filings that undercut the actual height. They put in a false amount of floors, but I've never seen false heights.

This tower is insane, its my favorite supertall under construction in the world right now. Also the height increase to 455 Meters makes sense because at a height of 438 meters this skyscraper would be the 3rd tallest fully residential I the world, behind Marina 106-underconstruction in Dubai and Mumbai One-Mumbai. With the new height of the tower it will be the tallest residential building in the world!!!

This is a quote from YIMBY concerning the final listed height (1,287') of 30 Hudson Yards:
"The number has hovered just above the Empire State Building’s 1,250-foot spire since last year, when the tower saw a slight reduction. It was originally supposed to surpass the 1,300-foot mark, but apparently that will not be the case. Until now, the only official documents on 30 Hudson Yards had been dummy filings, with a listed height of only 680 feet for its 68 floors."

Another quote from YIMBY concerning "dummy filings":

The permitting process surrounding high-profile projects is becoming increasingly convoluted, with ‘dummy filings’ now commonly submitted prior to actual new building applications. This is particularly true at 217 West 57th Street, which still doesn’t have any on-site renderings. But luckily some new supporting documents have been filed with the city, revealing what appear to be the actual height numbers for the tower’s parapet and roof, confirming it will become the country’s tallest building.

Nordstrom Tower, as far as I understand, will have a large hotel occupying floors on the bottom of the building, something like floor 10-45. If Nordstrom Tower is going to have a hotel in it then 111 West 57th will be the tallest residential building in the world with the height increase. Without it its would be the third tallest in the world.
