I'm a little confused by the floorplates- are they going to extend to the edge of the site in the pictures above?

No, the only thing that will reach the edge of the site is the glass retail lobby. The floors of the actual tower are set way back in the center of the site; what you see is basically what you get, although it will appear wider in the east-west dimension once it rises above the roof of Steinway Hall.

I just can't believe how tight the space is. Not just this pic, but also the small plot.

I would think that that picture is not part of the new construction, but within the historic building that is being integrated into the new tower.

Ah okay, thanks. That makes sense.
The floorplates then will be even smaller than I thought they would be. Unbelievable.

The finishes on this tower look stellar. Really can't wait to see it in person.

Not sure I've seen this rendering before but the details put into that ceiling are just insane.

Really hope this gets built as currently proposed. If it were up to me Id trade 432 Park Avenue AND the Nordstrom Tower for this one building.

It's pretty awesome but I don't know if I'd go that far personally. As amazing as it is it is still really skinny. Nordstrom will have an enormous impact though, far more than this... (And 432 a little more so than Steinway)

But guess what, we don't have to choose because we get them all

So out of the five Cental Park towers, which one do you think has the best base?

Agreed. Although in terms of overall design, it's really Steinway and the rest of the field. None of those towers come even close.
The only debate to have would be Steinway compared to TV, I can't decide between either of them so it's a tie IMO, but I really don't consider the latter as part of the CP towers.

Oh yeah, 53w53 is right there with Steinway, but I agree that it's in its own category.

Nordstrom isn't a slouch either though. I realize the curvy glass thing isn't everybody's cup of tea, but I do think Extell is doing a bang up job with the interplay of their new tower and the numerous classic buildings the store will integrate with.

432 Park would be next on the list of it weren't for the atrocious retail cube.

220 CPS gets demerits for the anti-urban porte cochere, but makes up for it with the "villa" on the Central Park side.

520 Park, if it were counted in this category, would be dead freaking last. The only thing to recommend it at street level is the neighboring church from which it takes its Park Ave address.

.... the cube resembles the Apple retail mecca that fronts the GM Building at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue. Developer Harry Macklowe is responsible, at least in part (Steve Jobs is also credited with the idea, but it arose in a meeting between them), for coming up with the idea of situating the store in a 30-foot-square glass cube on the building’s plaza, an idea that led to the creation of one of the world’s most successful and highly-recognized retail sites.
How a glass cube can be "atrocious"!??...I can't get it!...I saw it in person:striking!
