This is, perhaps, the most spectacular building currently under construction in the entire world. The design and the physical parameters are absolutely incredible.

Why did the thread title change from 1438 feet to 1428 feet? Please don't tell me there has been a height decrease??? Anyone know why?

Edit: Any answers would be appreciated, including if this is a false height or not! Thank you

I wish they could make it just 8m taller to surpass the Willis Tower.

This pictures are like a wet dream coming true. Hard to believe we are so spoiled with high class development in NYC.

I'm surprised that they thought it necessary to replace the copper, as it seemed to be in pretty good shape.

They might as well take care of it now, while it's all under construction and access is easy.

Uhhh... we're talking the lower roof, right? Look at all that asphaltic patching, and all the holes from previous roof penetrations. Looks like each joint is deteriorated on the copper and has been sealed against leakage, makes for a very tenuous roof situation. Its true, if you're spending a billion dollars, might as well replace the copper.

Copper has an interesting tendency to become thinner and thinner and thinner, until one day the critical points in the copper start to just dissappear (hence why each joint is sealed in this photo).

If you're going by the narrow side of the base of the tower (east-to-west), it's 58.75 : 1428, or 1: 24.3.

For the wider side of the base of the tower (north-to-south), it's 79.25 : 1428, or 1 : 18.0.

These ratios hold up to the 637.5' level of the tower, at the 50th floor. After that, the floorplates become progressively smaller.

Soon it will be noticeable from a distance. I'm looking forward to seeing it rise within the context of the rest of the midtown skyline.

Does anyone own a drone to get some aerial shots of the project? It's a bit hard to determine what's actually going on from the ground pictures alone.
