Does this require LPC approval? If so, you can expect a serious height reduction.

Yeah I'm confused on what kind of jurisdiction Landmarks has over this property. The article says plans were "submitted to Landmarks", however they may not have a say on the actual tower design, just any alterations to the Steinway Building. Who knows though, Landmarks often suffers from mission creep, especially if/when NIMBYs get involved.

EDIT: The answer was in the WSJ Article:

"Mr. Stern and Property Markets Group are planning to convert the Steinway Building into an apartment building and transfer its development rights. The new tower must get approval from the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission because it's next door to the Steinway building site, which is a city landmark.

Last week, the landmarks committee of the neighborhood community board voted to give a nonbinding endorsement of the plan. The full community board is set to take up the issue this week."

Good news, the CB may endorse it. Bad news, Landmarks may give it a give chop.

43 feet I believe. 1350/43=31.4.

Also for those who didn't notice the tower looks like it has tiger stripes on the east face. Can't wait to see more.

if it is located/rests, even partially, on top of Steinway than it is possible LPC to chop it down. But if it is a structure of its own, standing next to Steinway, I don't see how they can do this.

Well at 43 feet it certainly sounds like it will only use that tiny little lot. I had thought for sure 432 was the smallest lot a 400m tower could use.

It's funny to look up futuristic cities on google, none of the towers are this thin.

Good point as I believe this is the case. What I believe LMC can do is approve the look that is incorporated for the Steinway building portion which IMO what they will be paying attn to will be the base IMO. Honestly I really dunno.

@Robert Walpole

BTW- Great scoop!

I was hoping that your Intel was for another site that we were not quite aware of but this will do.

@Funkyskunk

It does look like on the East Side it has sort of a tiger stripe look to it which is interesting.

It also appears the North facing façade is white which is another interesting element. Maybe the North side facing Central Park will have a classic look while the South Side facing Midtown will be all glass sort of paying homage to Modern Midtown???

220 CPS site is located right in front of what will be the Nordstrom Tower between 58th Street and Central Park South.

Looks like a modern, stretched version of the Hampshire House Hotel behind it with all the setbacks. Have to see more renders though.

My feeling was right. Woooww...
Now 1,350 ft / 411 meters? This is incredible. Poor Extell... The design looks a bit like the previous one, but much louder. I want to see how it will look seeing the park.
