With this art deco revival, all we need is a revival in double-breasted suits with wide peak tip lapels and fedoras for that deco era look.

Nice, the trio of Verre, Steinway and Nordtsrom are making an impact on the CPS skyline now.

Flexible Materials Skyscraper.

Nowadays, the construction of the building needs a lot of time, manpower, and working procedure. A variety of buildings are formed through being assembled with different materials. However, the changeless rigid material has not been able to meet the people’s pursuit of the architectural form, and the complex construction process also limits the development of the building. So we hope to explore a new architectural model to meet people’s pursuit of architectural form while reducing the tedious construction process. Draping – just like putting on clothes for a building, which are tailor made from inside to outside. We hope to find out a new material which can be arbitrarily folded, cut, enclosed, sewed, turned over, and falls into a pattern. Tower just shows such a concept and form. Most of its exterior spread like vertically carpet from its top floor, the local contraction showing a part of the internal details. In addition, its interior is assembled with more detailed small units. This method not only makes the construction of the building more convenient and simple, makes the building repaired easily, but also makes the material easily reused and recycled after the demolition.
As a result, the building will be able to developed more possibilities, the burden that formed for modeling reduced in the aspect of structure, so the method is more convenient for the construction process and for recycling to reuse, which solves the problem that the vast majority of construction waste, and also brings people a new space experience.

Compared to the guy on it it actually looks skinnier than 59ft. This thing is going to be insane

My thoughts exactly! Do skyscrapers get flesh eating disease now? That pic sure looks like it. Ugh.
You know, I don't mind organic forms in architecture- look at La Segrada Familia in Spain, it's freaking gorgeous. But this just looks like a disease.

Luckily we are getting a lovely Art Deco tower, one of the best designs for NYC. Can't wait for the cladding to start!

Sorry for that bad visualization, I am not good in photoshop. But I wanted to attempt an illustration how this part of the skyline might look like soon. It includes 666 5th avenue, the 29 west 57th redevelopment and the parklane redevelopment and a 200m tower at the Calvari baptist site.

The 900m strip between the Nordstrom tower and 432 Park Avenue (which in my opinion should be rebranded into "The Drake") might house 7 supertalls of which 3 are over 400m tall. I have always dramed about this happening, but i haven´t thought it will happen. It still feels odd that it is in fact happening.

That looks so alien. Years of TV and Video games have taught me to fear such a construct.

Also, does every Supertall have to be slender? Is that the only practical option to fit inside of the City?

I think they proposed it this way, because they put it in the lot of 111 W. 57th St., so they stick witch its proportions. It's also one the most prominent spots near central park. There was a verry ornamentic Mark Foster Gage proposal/Vision, a while ago. I'm not sure if it was also in this spot?

Unsuprisingly the proportions of buldings are influenced by different factors. The developers often try to make a profit. Slimmer buildings means more floorspace per lotspace -> more sales. But more floorspace/lotspace needs more FARs -> increasing costs. If your building exceeds a certain hight, you got better views -> higher sale prices. Smaller floorplates mean also more rooms near the facade, so more rooms with a lot of light -> again higher sale prices. But most of the now build slim residantial towers in NY need such large structural elements, columns and sheer walls, beneath the facade, that they get rather less than more windwos out of the slenderness. These slender buildings are structurally more complex, designwise and materialwise -> higher costs.

In the end, the developers pond all these different factors on their profit and trys to find an optimum.
