Getting thinner near the top may actually make it easier from an engineering perspective.

I'm sure it does, but it also makes it look better.

(Please don't mention The Creek Tower in Dubai)

Edit: Scratch that. The Creek Tower in Dubai will be way wider than this. So yup, this will probably be the thinnest supertall ever.
They should have made Tribeca Royale a supertall. Updates would have been sparse though since you'd need a really high resolution camera to see it at all.

They're one and the same! This tower is basically just a core.

Crain's weighs in on the legal machinations involving this tower:

http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article...on-condo-spire

Steinway Tower owner fights to hold on to $1 billion condo spire
Ambase hopes court will delay planned foreclosure that would wipe out its $66 million investment

A judge delayed a decision in State Supreme Court yesterday on whether an under-construction Billionaire's Row apartment tower should go into foreclosure.

Judge Eileen Bransten postponed a preliminary ruling that could determine the fate of the high-profile Steinway Tower project at 111 West 57th Street until Monday.

Ambase Corp., a part owner of the property, is seeking a preliminary injunction to hold off a foreclosure by mezzanine lender, Spruce Capital.

Ambase's attorney, Stephen Meister, alleges that the other partners in the project, developers Michael Stern and Kevin Maloney, are conspiring to eliminate Ambase's $66 million stake by agreeing to the seizure by Spruce. Meister said he believes Spruce, Stern and Maloney then plan to partner together to finish the $1 billion building.

Late last month, Meister won a temporary restraining order blocking what he said was a strict foreclosure of the property that was in the works. Strict foreclosures are a type of asset seizure where borrowers agree to surrender property to the lender rather than hold a conventional foreclosure auction where outside bidders can compete.

If Meister succeeds in delaying the strict foreclosure in court, it would preserve Ambase's stake in the project for the time being. Spruce Capital, whose $25 million loan on the property is currently in default, could move to hold a standard foreclosure auction for the property, but that process could take several weeks or months. Meister said a conventional foreclosure would potentially allow Ambase to recoup at least some of its investment.

In a separate lawsuit filed last year, Ambase is suing Stern and Maloney over the project's construction budget, which it says has swelled beyond the agreed upon projections. Ambase claims its partnership agreement with Stern and Maloney entitles it to be bought out of the project by the other owners at more than double what it invested. That case is ongoing.

[END EXCERPT]

IF they lose control of this tower in some fashion (by no means a foregone conclusion), this video of Michael Stern letting a French guy into the site before construction began will take on a sad dimension:

Yeah there are hidden LED light strips tucked into the outer folds of the terracotta "waves" -- there's a close-up on this thread somewhere.

Edit: found it!

I was in Central Park just earlier today. You can very clearly see this and CPT all the way from the North side of the Resevoir! No pics (sorry) because I only have a cell phone camera and it really wasn't turning out too well at all. But the progress we've been making is really great!
