I really can't see this being built at that height.

To me a skyscraper that's going to be taller than the Empire State Building is a super tall skyscraper, so 107 west 57St will be 100 ft taller than the ESB and 18ft shorter than 1WTC Thats kinda tall.
107 West 57 Street- Roof 1,350ft
Empire State Buildig-Roof 1,250 ft (381.0 m)
One World Trade Center- Roof1,368 ft (417.0 m)

I think that 225 will be just fine 1250 or 1550. I also think theres a possibility of 220 being a supertall as well, all in all great times. I hope this stays at 1350 feet.

Over here this is almost close to nothing. It is equal to merely 3 windows in width if you put a store on the first floor.

something really unbelievable is happening in the world of building materials and structural steel/cement.

Actually, it is even less than that, 43 ft=13,1 meters

For me too it is hard to believe they are building such a tall tower in such a tiny plot, seems impossible, that is half the side of 432 Park

Maybe it is as you said, they plan to use part of the steinway building to build the Tower somehow. I post this image of the lot (s) The blue rectangle is the empty lot 43 feet wide, as you can see it is teeny-tiny some buses on the street are longer than the plot is wide
So, the Steinway Building is the orange rectangle, what about the green rectangles, are they part of the Steinway Building? would those buildings be demolished to make way to this one?
It is possible that they could use the part of the back part of the Steinway building to make this tower wider, I understand that a remarkable part of the Steinway is the rotunda, and I think some other interior spaces, which I think it is unlikely they let demolish. Where that rotunda is located within the building? is at the front, at the middle?

I have changed my mind. We won't need a 1550ft 225 to balance out 432. This is wonderful.

107 is taking up the entire lot area at the base so it has a surprising amount of depth, 225 is the new shorter height, 220 is 850ft. Note Nordstrom is jammed to the west, likely will be closer to one57.
Nice work!

Awesome news! This is a dream come true for a future structural engineer. If they install a webcam here, screw 432 Park, I'll be here.

Very good. Nice work Funky. 442 park and this building are insane: Thin and very high. Funny that now Tower Verre seems small near these monsters.

Very funny!

P.S.: This is my favorite image of Allan Konigsberg aka Woody Allen.

Throw in 45 E 60th which looks ready to roll, the Hudson Yards, and East Midtown rezoning, and Midtown Manhattan's skyline is going to be embarrassingly good.

From the official render, it only looks about half as deep as that. Seems to shoot straight down at about the 600' mark, rather than continuing to balloon out.

The more I look at this render I'm liking it more and more. I really like the old render but I think I like this more. Can't wait to see a better quality renders showing more profiles.

The area indicated by the red lines below is the tower portion of the Steinway Building that fronts on 57th St. As Robert Walpole mentioned, the Steinway structure consists of a lot more than that. It has another tall section that runs back from 57th, and the building extends all the way to 58th St.

This image gives a glimpse of the second capped section (which has the second green copper roof seen in the aerial):

So the question is whether JDS will have to fit the supertall in the little 43-foot-wide lot, or if they will be able to demolish part of the Steinway Building. At the very least, that low protrusion at the back of the empty lot should go.

Here are views of the Steinway building on 58th St. That cornerstone says Steinway & Sons:

I would love to see the east-west facades with lights along the perimeter that trace the steps of the set back.

i think the roof is lower, that 411m figure is for the top of the crown. SSP has the roof over 100m lower, not sure where the figure comes from
