Great photo... I love how we can start to see the cladding on Steinway from afar.

I wonder how much New York not being the best place on Earth for supertall sliverscrapers holds it back. If not now then in the future when someone will put up the money for even taller apartment buildings. Even if they had the desire and bedrock NY's better than the South coast or Tornado Alley but probably many parts of Europe have milder earthquakes and lower maximum possible winds.

Since those sides are east-west facing, they will whatsoever render natural light through?

Unless you count covering up a concrete core wall a purpose.

99% of people wouldn't even be able to tell they're not real windows anyway

The purpose is to make it look more likely to fall down than it really is.

Ideally you would like to have more windows on both sides, but I assume there are only a few because of structural strength of the tower.

Hi KZ, It's a good question. I googled 'Steinway Tower NYC Floor Plans'. If you look at some of the floor plan images you can see that those smaller windows on the sides do have purpose.

I think KZ meant the glazing panels (Glass) serves no purpose. KZ, often insulated glazing is used instead of other materials to give a nice appearance. I think the architect did a good job of including *just enough* 'real' window openings through the shear walls (and changing their alignment vertically) to fool us into thinking they're all used as 'windows'. At night a random smattering of light will be cast through these, creating the illusion that there's less concrete. Although now WE know, so WE won't be fooled :P

Every single building on earth. Whether it's a Greeco/roman temple, Gothic cathedral, austere modernist block, or glass clad rectangle, all have some sort of "aesthetic skin". Do you people have a problem with the "aesthetic skin" of 111?

99% of people on this forum praise this building for being aesthetically beautiful. Finally a great building to go down in history, but I guess there's always going to be that 1% that would rather stab needles in their eyes than appreciate beauty.

Don't mind the critics.

And remember:
