thought the same, but wouldn't be the first building that looks like the crown starts higher, yet is empty for quite a bit below the visible glass crown. but we will see, maybe it indeed goes to the glass crown

There's no way the setbacks have outdoor terrace space right? They look awfully narrow, not to mention the wind. But it seems like those horizontal darker bands above the setbacks might be glass.

Too small for apartments probably. This tower is a bit too thin for my taste btw.
Who knows, maybe one apartment will span over 2 or 3 floors. It's common for family houses to have more floors so I don't see why this couldn't be the case in a supertall

I can't believe people are still using higher floor count on here as a sign of height. Otherwise CitySpire Center (814 feet), at 75 floors, would be taller than the HY North Tower (1,337 feet) at 73 floors.

It's only a more efficient use of space.

I know that... And i also know that usually residential towers have higher floors, but 75? It could be 2 things, one is that every (or most) floors would be higher than 432 Park Ave, and 2 is that there would be more mechanical floors or unused space or perhaps for retail at the base?

Don't forget that this building's design has a very tall crown on the top, taking up a lot of that vertical space. So the top floor isn't anywhere near 1,350 feet.

Probably more like 1000-1100 feet. It pays off to have a many as possible apartments above the roofs of surrounding buildings.

I would go by the DOB filing figure which goes by the highest occupied floor.

1,200ft highest occupied floor
1,350ft with crown.

According to shed A on dob filing, floors 72-74 are mech floors.

150 ft is not extremely tall for a crown.

On the otherhand, a single apartment would probably consist of a few floors.

SSP has it at 73, and from my recollections of the diagrams, so do they.

I wouldn't trust the SSP diagrams for this building, They say it is 1 000 feet to the roof, but the render clearly shows that there is no way that the lattice crown would be 350 feet tall ........ that is, if the renders are correct in the first place

I wonder if all of the setbacks are meant to pay homage to JDS' Walker Tower.

P.S.: An architectural publication dubbed 107 W 57th the "Stairway to Heaven."

1) Go to skyscraperpage.com.
2) Click Diagrams.
3) Select World's Tallest Buildings 2013.
4) Scroll down to the search option at the bottom.
5) Type in New York City
6) HY North Tower should be about 5 from the left.
