It happens all the time in an application process for a NB/ permits. it is not a big deal. That's why the application says "pending" even though it has been disapproved. There are a lot of requirements that needs to be met & satisfied. It is not easy submitting these application and getting a home run right away.

Seems like NYC can't match in height of new supertalls with China's ones, so they decided to cheat making new supertall so thin, that they looks like megatall between regular 150-250m skyscrapers.

errrrm.... no, these are residential buildings which require as much exterior views as possible, they're also built taller so that people in the upper floors get unobstructed views which are built with a bigger asking prices

They're not trying to compete with Chinese office buildings, they're trying to make as much profit as possible...

if you've noticed, New Yorks office buildings are just as wide as Chinas... so it's not 'cheating'

There are not to many sites in Manhattan that can have large floor plates for development because Manhattan is so densed and developed. So in NYC in many cases if you want to build tall you need to build thin and make best with the site you have if the developer wishes to maximize their property.

It is not "cheating", It is called playing by the rules that our zoning would allow.

That's utterly moronic. NYC does not feel compelled to "match" China.

Does it mean for example certain construction safety aspects aren't done right, or they may have to re figure certain aspect for wind flow and stuff?

China is also just building things there is no demand for. There is no need for a megatall in Inner Mongolia. Yet they are building one.

Below is the link for this project. As you can see there is a laundry list of items for this application for enlargement that need to be addressed and satisfied for approval. It is a ton of work.

I don't say it's wrong, these towers gonna lift skyline into a new level. Despite a regular exterior architecture (as Park Avenue), proportions of building volume is insane and skyline with these new towers will look futuristic.

Why must people always involve China's projects here? The concept of Sky City is extremely efficient and necessary in a country experiencing rapid urban growth. We've been over this before. Its desirability is just as high as New York's residentially speaking and much more so commercially.

I'm sorry but if you really believe that all of Chinas new towers are because of demand, then there's a serious piece of the story you're missing. Regardless, of course there is demand for some of the towers, definitely not all.

Either way, non-sense aside, this tower will be great and will be a great addition for New York.

I disagree, but this doesn't belong here.

And yes, it absolutely will be. I'm interested to see higher quality renders released. I guess we'll just have to wait.

One thing NY has over any asian city is a history of skyscrapers, 100 years of development creating one of the best citys in the world.

I doubt anyone would change that for 3 or 4 over-sized over-designed towers.

Holy guacamole!

Looks like 425 Park and this one will have a monster fin dialogue.

See how tiny the Steinway building looks next to the new tower.

LOL fins of peace

That does sort of harken back to 1920s-30s skyscrapers.
