The way this meets the street is beyond perfect. Simple, clean, and elegant. And the terra cotta fins.... Holy hell.

Incredible. My new favorite proposal... SHoP just hit a home run.

Hope they start construction ASAP.

Besides being reminiscent of some classic art deco buildings, I would add that, at least the east and west facades, would somehow be reminiscent of the Twin Towers. I guess that as in the twin towers, that are columns very close spaced. The tower looks pretty gorgeous.

^ Totally.

This (along with Tower Verre and 2WTC) is my favourite project now, by far.

knowing what I know as of today it is obvious to me that 107 W57 has the best design/height ratio in a very long time. terra cotta tiles, "stair" like building, resemblance of classical era skyscrapers, incredible width - all of this tells me that this structure, if built, will have the gold prize out of everything I see so far in the works/plans.

I wonder if they will include a viewing platform on top.

This building has really stolen the thunder hasn't it? Thankfully replaces much of what we thought we would get with Torre Verre.

57th Street the new "Gold Coast" of New York

Torre Verre is a great design indeed, but it was gutted by the reductions in height and once you look at all these supertalls all over it - it looses its appeal completely. I am very conflicted about it since I'd love to see it happen, but it is clear that current height and design is insufficient due to all this additions on W57th str.

Thanks a lot for the info. I get those two towers mixed up a lot. So I have a few questions:

Which one's the "Nordstrom Tower?"

Are the two towers close to each other? (I'm assuming they are, but how close?)

Why don't they give each tower a name (well, the one that's not the Nordstrom Tower)

And I just wanted to say that I will be visiting this thread on a regular basis because I'm so excited for the design! I can't believe this is becoming a reality! Soon I'll see this building in the the supertall construction section! Before I just visited this thread sporadically, like every month because there was no design. But now there's not only a design, but it's a great design!

I wonder if they have estimated completion dates for both towers. And 217/225 West 57th Street doesn't really have a good design. And that's coming from a person who loves 1 WTC's spire. I think that's because I had so many expectations for the tower. But it's not a horrible design. It just looks a little unstable because there's a random block protruding from the base which happens to be the main part of the tower. I still hope that tower turns out to be 1600 feet or so. Preferably taller than Taipei 101, but shorter than One World Trade Center.

Actually, I wouldn't mind if it were taller than One World Trade Center. Because there's absolutely no way it's going to be completed before One World Trade Center. All I'm hoping now is that One World Trade Center can be the third tallest building in the world at the time of its completion. (And no, they're not going to prefabricate it because buildings in America are built for profit, not show, like somebody said). Because what's the point? It's going to be surpassed by Shanghai Tower, Ping An, Lotte World Tower, you name it. It won't even make the top ten in the mid-2020s. But I don't think 225 West 57th Street's going to be any taller than 1700 feet. It'd just be too unporportional and unrealistic.

They are about 0,2 mile apart.

Because the address is just the name. That is with much much more buildings in NYC.
