Totally agree! The new design looks even more bad ass. The rendering's not that great tho, the glass looks awful, we need better renderings.

This will be an interesting tower to watch rise.
I also prefer the new Verre.

5) tie between The Pyramid and The Corset

Don't u guys love those names by the way? "Pyramid", "Corset", "Tower Verre". Only in NYC!
What about London? I think they started that with the "cheesegrater", "gerhkin", "shard" and "walkie talkie", etc...

The topic of discussion is a tower located to NYC so we're being New York centric, if u wanna discuss London towers feel free to go the the appropriate forum. Tho they do have some pretty cool names too
By the way giving nicknames to buildings have existed since ancient times. London didn't invent them

How is it a big deal either way? If London didn't ínvent' the practice, they certainly elevated it!

(unfortunately, it can sometimes go the other way too, i.e."fryscraper" )

Give me a break, you ended the comment with 'Only in NYC!'. Just admit you forgot, don't make up a bs argument and tell someone to go to a different forum.

Burgers are only sold at BK!
What about Mcdonald's?
Oh we're being BK centric.

I was responding to the "they started it" comment. I don't care either way, I love some of the name I hear in other cities but it's a bit annoying when comments made about a specific building in a specific city lead to a broader discussion about everything and anything as it is so often the case in this forum.

How often do u hear the "only in NYC" expression whenever you see or hear about something quite extraordinary, does that mean it only happens in NYC? Guess next time I'll stick to following up on updates and speaking in a simple and plain form cause again this is turning into a stupid discussion about nothing. The floor is yours!

I guess I don't think in a NY-centric way but prefer a global view. Perhaps the expression "only in NY" needs to be dropped if it often inaccurate.

Why should it be dropped? New York is the most important city in the world.

If you look on the wall of the 3rd and force pictures, you can see some renderings. Not sure if any are new, looks like tower verre and another building in the skyline picture.

Can't wait until this starts. Drool!

Is JDS developing those buildings behind the Steinway Landmarked Building that goes all the way to 58th street? All those buildings are in color white same as the tower compared to the surrounding buildings.

If they are it seems those will be designed/ renovated consistent to the landmarked portion which would be cool.

In the architectural model, everything in the lighter color (aside from the tower) is the current Steinway building, which extends through to 58th Street, and indeed has a substantial fronting on 58th Street. The existing Steinway will be mostly converted to residential.

The entire Steinway building is landmarked as far as the exterior is concerned. A portion of the 57th Street tower has had its interior landmarked, with the concurrence of JDS. If the proposal of JDS is approved by the full landmark commission (as it is expected to be), a small portion of the landmarked exterior will be demolished, and that portion will become part of the footprint of the tower.

The Steinway interior landmark designation can be found at this link (.pdf form). The date of designation was September 10, 2013.

This design is amazing, and it will be a thrill to watch it rise. I just hope the funding comes through.
