Most historical buildings in New York are preserved and well-kept. The problem is the historic buildings in Midtown that are facing tons of pressure from developers. I think the Landmark Preservation Commission should focus a lot more on Midtown but that's just my opinion.

This is what I'm talking about. I just hope Lower Manhattan is better protected.

People put a lot of focus on just three or four older buildings being replaced in the skyscraper districts, so it makes the problem seem a lot worse than it really is. And most of the time there is a really nice replacement for those that are torn down.

The Dakota is also where John Lennon was shot and killed.

The new proposed or constructed ~ 250 - 400+x m skyscrapers without balkony and constantly closed window, IMHO affect the quality of life inside and outside make s a stifling athmosphere in the adjacent streets.

New skyscrapers for New York ? Of course, but not 400m monsters in tradition rich living areas.
Last time I checked New York is on it's way to build plenty of 400m monters and actually has more 200m buildings than either Shanghai or Dubai

Contest won I say.

New York does not have to replicate craving for status of Dubay or other arabic penninsula desert citys.
I don't think anyone in NYC wants the city to look like Dubai.

These buildings have nothing to do with Dubai, BTW. They are very slim towers in the middle of dense urban neighborhoods.

And they're being built because of demand, not because some billionaire oil shiek wants to build some "symbol".
