Awesome. And it doesn't need to be the tallest in town to be a masterpiece.

This tower has surpassed tower verre in my book. Even if TV was 400m it wouldn't be as outstanding. What do you guys think? This or the original TV at 380m?

Nothing would make me happier than if Extell responds with a 1550 ft tower with a similar crown and art deco themes as this and one57.

Wow those last renders are breathtaking. It'll blow the postmoderny One57 out of the water, with something more genuine looking.

I remember that the first design had a facade with integrated LEDs. I wonder if that has been retained? If so this tower will be a showstopper at night.

Definitely this. This is far more elegant and iconic than even Verre

Agreed. The detailing and proportions on this one are really something. If TV and 111 were under construction at the same time, they would be my respective number 2 and 1 in the world to watch, not just in NY. Nice to see buildings in the pipeline designed by architects who really know what they're doing.

I can't go that far, but honestly, every time I see a new render of Steinway the gap closes more and more; I actually think I have them tied at this point.
Let's also remember that we haven't seen a detailed rendering of the new version of TV, I expect we'll get one in the coming months considering construction will be starting in the summer. I'll make my pick then.
But for now I'm ecstatic that those 2 masterpieces will be under construction fairly soon. Great stuff going up in NYC!

Yea Ghost said it best for me! Dang it's really close I tell ya. I dunno if I had to pick one.

Just glad to see 2 amazing iconic towers that should be rising about the same time. #blessed

From the look of that rendering, it looks to have gold vertical fins on the southern fašade. If that is the case... VERY NICE!

Just imagine 3 thin residential towers beating 1WTC, all at the same street. 57th is indeed becoming the skyscraper center of New York City
By those renders it would deserve that title.

The roof feature in the direction of central Park reminds me of the roof feature of One57.

Interestingly, the article graphic says the Steinway will rise to 1397'

Too Rich, Too Thin, Too Tall? (Read entire article in link)
Ever taller, ever thinner, the new condo towers racing skyward in Midtown Manhattan are breaking records for everything, including price. Sold for $95 million, the 96th floor of 432 Park Avenue will be the highest residence in the Western world. As shadows creep across Central Park, Paul Goldberger looks at the construction, architecture, and marketing of these super-luxury aeries, gauging their effect on the city’s future.
http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/20...-new-york-city

Quote:
And then there is 111 West 57th Street, designed by the architectural firm SHoP, which will be the thinnest tower of all, and quite possibly the most elegant: 1,397 feet, balanced on a base only 60 feet wide. The builders of 111 West 57th are Kevin Maloney of Property Markets Group and Michael Stern, the head of JDS Development Group. Stern broke into the Manhattan luxury market just recently by converting an old Art Deco telephone-exchange building on West 18th Street into the exceptionally sophisticated—and exceptionally successful—Walker Tower. Stern is a passionate enthusiast of New York architectural history (he named the 18th Street building for its original architect, Ralph Walker), and he seems genuinely eager to add to that history.

His tower, which will be sheathed mostly in glass on its north and south sides and will have supporting walls covered in bronze and terra-cotta on the east and west, will be slipped beside, and rise above, another landmark, the handsome, limestone-clad office building that houses Steinway Hall, the ornate piano showroom, at its base. SHoP’s design partners, Gregg Pasquarelli and Vishaan Chakrabarti, said that what they wanted most of all was to design a building that would feel as if it belonged in New York and no other place—that “has the DNA of New York, so you will know it wasn’t plucked off the skyline of Shanghai or Hong Kong,” as Pasquarelli said to me. The building will rise straight up on its northern side, facing the park, but on the south it will gently set back in a series of steps so that the north-south dimension of the tower gradually gets thinner and thinner until it has no depth at all at the top and becomes just a glass wall at the building’s crown. It is a subtle and graceful re-interpretation in modern form of the stepped-back, “wedding cake” towers of New York’s past, seasoned by a sprinkling of a classic New York material, terra-cotta, all put together in a way that makes deft use of today’s technology. Of all the new towers, it is the only one that gets ever more delicate as it rises, ending not with a climactic crown but by almost disappearing into the sky.

Adding that news article to the "about 1400ft" comment noted a few weeks back and I think the evidence is mounting that there was indeed a height change.

Not necessarily, 1350 feet is "about" 1400 feet, that rendering hasn't updated the heights of the other buildings though.

1350' is not about 1400' neither is it considered close to. The figure given is an exact 1397'.

If a figure is being estimated, people would say aprox 1,400' and not 1397'. Lol.

The article focused primarily on 3 developments and that's One57, 432 Park and 111 West 57th Street while the other projects are just periphery. I'm sure the author got detailed info especially on 111West57th since there are direct quotes from the architects of the Steinway.

On getting height figure wrong on the 220 CPS and 520 Park could simply be the result of the author acting on past media reports while not investigating it thoroughly since they are not written about in depth in the article.
