I agree, the towers height does seem a little too specific... Maybe they know something we don't?

Whether this tower becomes 1350 or 1400 ft is barely interesting. It is the design what makes this tower iconic.

I think those 1 397 feet is a very exact figure. Can it still change? Yes, however it is exact enough to put it into the thread title, in my opinion

To some this height increase might not mean much, however to me it has tremendous meaning because with this height it has the potential to beat 1WTC in height, if the crown will be solid. And that is the other step we need before we can declare that a third tower on 57th will beat 1WTC. From the older renders it looked like an open air lattice crown, however the newer renders made it look like a solid crown. I am quite confident they will use a solid crown because it fits the design better. The art deco inverse triangle feature that we saw on the newer renders and that is present on 157 too would just not be visible enough in an open air lattice crown. This building is perhaps the greatest example of all times how modern features and art deco features can merge together to create a masterpiece

The drawing from the article clearly says 1397 feet. They must've got it from a good source.
Love that drawing, it really puts things into perspective as far as how much this area will be transformed in the near future, ( and I gotta say it again, boy do I hate Nordstrom's massing!)

Amended

Since they put Tower Verre on the map, 425 Park Ave at 905' located at the corner of 55th Street and Park Ave should also have been added into the graphic.

Agreed! Another stellar design that needs mention. Tho I think the article only focuses on residential towers.

Yeah, this is about the "billionaires' row" resi tower phenomenon, so 425 doesn't quite fit.

Also, it's incredible just how scrawny this graphic makes One57 appear when we know how dominating a presence it has in real life.

Agreed, in real life One57 due to the buildings around looks massive. If someone told me it was the tallest in NYC and I knew no different I wouldn't have argued.

If a figure is being estimated, people would say aprox 1,400' and not 1397'. Lol.

The article focused primarily on 3 developments and that's One57, 432 Park and 111 West 57th Street while the other projects are just periphery. I'm sure the author got detailed info especially on 111West57th since there are direct quotes from the architects of the Steinway.

On getting height figure wrong on the 220 CPS and 520 Park could simply be the result of the author acting on past media reports while not investigating it thoroughly since they are not written about in depth in the article.

Where did it say 1397'? Isn't that 432 park avenue's height?

1350 and 1400 are not much different so the news reporter may have just been rounding up.

why would they round up to 1,397? surely they'd round it up to the 10's?

I doubt that was rounding up and it may be correct, given the impulse toward one-upmanship in this nabe. But they also screwed up the height of 220CPS. We need a better source of height information than Vanity Fair.

Seems like everyone's talking about those large condos these days. But again, it puts into perspective how large those towers are getting.
