If 107 West 57th street becomes a supertall, i think Hines should really push for Tower Verre's original height. Go straight to the mayor and ask for it instead of going through Burden. (if it can be done).

A collection of buildings that Sheldon Solow owns, he also owns 9 West 57th St, which is the black and white building right in front of the massing model. It remains to be seen what Solow will do with the buildings across from 9 W 57th though. He could, and very well might, just keep them undeveloped to preserve the southern views in 9 W 57th, which has some of the highest commercial rents in the city, precisely because of the views. Or, he could develop a slender building ala this one, and sacrifice some rental income in 9 W 57th for revenue from that site.

Either way, it's all speculation, and to expect anything from that site, in my opinion, is pretty optimistic. If something happens, great, if not, there's plenty more to be excited about on 57th St.

This would result in very small floor plans. Onaother way would be to built it partially above adjacent buildings (which doesn't seem to be very high, so it should be possible).

Good to know that the tower's going to be revised due to the Steinway acquisition.

I actually like the design of this tower and hope it does not change except being stretched to its new 900 + feet. It will add a unique look in this corridor and I really like the idea that there will be 1 apt per floor with a fraction of units being duplexes. I think this will sell very very well.

I'm kind of disappointed that they are redesigning it and that it will no longer be as sliverish...

Wait, 13 meters thin?

How does that even work for a building of such height?

With modern concrete of a quality like in the WTC or 432 Park it wouldn't surprise me if something like this would be doable

Now imagine 900+ ft. of this. Even more boring.

I like the design as it is, but I could see a better design coming out of it.

It does strike me as a little busy. But I'm really excited by the height-to-width ratio, so I'm giving it some wiggle-room. I expect we'll mostly be seeing it in silhouette anyway.

Can somebody confirm that I'm understanding what the Steinway acquisition means? That not only will they be able to build taller, but they will be able to either incorporate Steinway into the base, or hang the tower over the roof of it, allowing the floorplates to be wider? And if that's the case, do we have any indication of how much wider it can/might get? Thanks.

Adding even 15 or 20 feet to the width would make a significant visual impact, even if they add another 200+ feet on top. I want the sliver preserved!

For sure, the contrast of the stick between the neighbouring bulks is great.

Landmarks Commission ‏@nyclandmarks

Plan to consider @SteinwayAndSons' stunning piano showroom on W. 57th St as an interior landmark on the 6/25 agenda:

That does look really nice. If this could be built atop it to preserve the building, they should do it.
