If you're ever feeling that a building is taking so slow to rise, always remember that the WTC has a Tower 3.

Just in: This beautiful, art deco inspired tower is not only going to be one of the tallest in Manhattan, but it'll also be the first supertall building in the world to be built by one dude alone. Steve 'Boobs' Kowalzcyk from Flushing Queens was awarded with the contract recently. He's out for lunch on this pic.

The construction site as of August 27th, 2014. Why is construction going so slow? Every time I walk past this site there are no workers or activity going on whatsoever. I mean just look at that one "abandoned" hard hat in the second photo. But the other 57 street projects such as the Nordstrom tower are buzzing with activity.

Typical Boobs Kowalzcyk, just leaving his equipment lying out.

Totally. And I hope he remembers to give Juan's wheelbarrow back when he's finished with it.

Also, I kind of love what appears to be the one, lonely extension cord.

I'm just curious how they will gonna build a 426m tall building on a land footprint which seems to not be more than 10x20m and including the space behind that wall where it would be wider will probably have 10x30m so 300 square meters. the whole building weight must be at least 20-30k tonnes which means ~100 ton on each square meter. unless is it built on bedrock, can someone explain how the soil will withstand to such a pressure.
For comparison, the static pile driver machines often used in china for various projects are pressing the piles with a force of up to 400-500 tonnes per square meter, on soft soil, 120-200 tones per square meter is just enough to insert the pile in soil as easy as would do with the knife in the butter.

If I'm correct the tower is wider than 10 meter, 60 ft is roughly 18 meter.
The tower will be founded on bedrock.

I read Manhattan was entirely build on granite. It explains why Manhattan doens't have problem like Shanghai, that sinks because of the weight.

The area of the base of this tower (58.75' X 79.25' = 4,656 sq. ft.) is almost exactly half of that of 432 Park (96.5 X 96.5 = 9,312 sq. ft.).

You guys cracked me up! I mean literally I LOL'd...
First time I ever got to use that abbreviation for real.

That was just so what I was thinking too...

...Well what can you expect from Kowalzcyk when there's not even smoking allowed on the site...

It would be worth the extra time just to see this built by one guy only

Yes, i'm wandering too, how they are going put so big building in such small space. There is just enough room here to put a Chinese street food restaurant. But 400+ m tower.....i wander..?

They won't actually build it in that alleyway. That's where the podium will be, but the tower will be on a larger piece of land behind it (once the existing structures are demolished)

Correct
You can see this from these photos (3rd and 4th display this the best) of models loaned to the SkyscraperMuseum for their previous exhibition.

My understanding is that they're gutting some portions of the Steinway(?) building, but are leaving the ballroom or are rather incorporating it into this building.
