It's not a matter of plot but a whole big block. That's the difference.
You're right. NYC is really the only city that builds supertalls integrated in the urban fabric. The Chinese cities tend to built supertalls in a more suburban-style, superblock format.

You can't really build in that format anyways in most countries, because it would be basically impossible. China doesn't really have Western-style property rights; they can build whatever they want because the govt. runs construction there.

And Bloomberg News reported on this tower today.

Marketing for the tower starts early next year, with only 60 enormous units in the complex. Building will be 1397 ft. per Blooomberg.

And the constraints create beautiful and innovative ideas, and I don't even want to think about the pricing of these units.

Not impossible, there are a number of huge whole-block multi-tower developments in NYC. There's a huge part of Queens that has several multi-tower developments in the Highrises section, and then there are of course the famous Manhattan ones like WTC and HY.

Though WTC is a special case since that block didn't become available for development voluntarily...

Hudson Yards is more of a renewal project, though, isn't it? I mean, it's not all brownfields, it's just a big rail yard. Surely it's the exception that proves the rule? aside from HY and WTC, are there any other multi-tower projects in New York?

Well there aren't many updates on this tower, so talking about that isn't too off topic.

Why does both 432 Park Avenue and Steinway Tower forums both say 1397ft.? Is that right?

NEW YORK | 111 West 57th Street | 426m | 1397ft | 77 fl | Prep
NEW YORK | 432 Park Ave | 426m | 1397ft | 89 fl | U/C

Doesn't matter, it's still off-topic. If there aren't any updates, people should not be coming here just to bump the topic with useless stuff.

That's all I will say about that.

I'm fairly certain that if the MODERATORS deemed the brief (and, in my humble one) very informative side discussion to be 'off-topic', they'd say so ... and in short order remove the posts.

Then again, I'm of the opinion that these ultimately harmless exchanges (within reason) add to the overall thread. What DOES detract from these threads are all you self-appointed Thread Police Officers with your constant criticisms.

You really need to get a grip ... Your incessant and childish finger-waving at 'off topic' discussions is, as irony would have it, - actually off topic and frankly extremely irritating.

They have the space to. Where in NYC could you develop a whole block at once? It's not that their new towers are that wide, but rather that a plot like that would comprise several builldings, and a podium.

What that guys is doing is admirable and heroic! They need to erect a monument of him in the main rotunda in the Steinway hall.

Well, maybe he's hiding because he wasn't actually hired. I mean, maybe It's the president of JDS Development Group himself working on excavation right now to cut costs? Who knows.
