Niiiice! Another height boost! The crown is beautiful!

Imagine what peoples reactions would be if you pointed 432 pa put to them and told them that there will be at least another 3 towers going to be taller than it in just a few years time!

Incredible!

Good news. Owning and living on an entire floor and having 360 deg view of nyc will be unique.

I love how this tower went from a lame design initially to an amazing, innovative one that's actually getting built. Usually it's the opposite.

Some won't ever set foot in them, some might even make them their primary residence. These towers are mansions in the sky, people will live in them, especially if they have work in the city.

yea it's really crazy to think about the height increase this tower has gotten from the 1st proposal for this site.

656' to 1421' increase is insane!!

This must be a record breaker for a height increase for a tower. #rapunzel

The closest 360 view penthouses I know are One57 and the CitySpire Center, but this will be over 100 meter higher.

We all love height increases, I think it is quite obvious they did it for marketing reasons just to be taller than it's direct competition; 432 Park Av.

Correct, but it should be counted imho (see f.e. Shanghai Tower). This glassy / bronze crown is a pretty solid structure.

Since this tower has such a small footprint, it should rise very quickly!

it now has a insane height to width ratio of 23.683 to one. this will be slender fo sho this will be a landmark and it also has a roof nearly as tall as the sears tower.

Yes sir! This will be an engineering marvel.

New rez spire aims to be hemisphere's tallest

The pencil-thin tower under construction at 111 W. 57th St. is slated to stand 1,421 feet, beating its recently topped-out neighbor 432 Park Ave. by 25 feet.

http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article...pheres-tallest

Quote:
he slender spire under development by JDS Development Group and Property Markets Group at 111 W. 57th St. will tower 1,421 feet, according to city records. That will make it about 25 feet taller than 432 Park, the spire topped out late last year, and the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere.

Reports of the SHoP Architects-designed tower’s height have varied since the developers first unveiled plans in 2013. Initially it looked like the building would top out in the neighborhood of 1,350 feet—well short of 432 Park Ave.’s 1,397-foot height. But documents in the city Department of Building’s database show that 111 W. 57th will be taller than originally thought.

The developers began pouring the foundation for their property, which wraps around the historic Steinway Hall, late last year. They received their final permits from the city this week, which was reported by blog New York Yimby [Yes in My Backyard] Wednesday.

The developers are now in the final stages of securing a $500 million construction loan. The tower has been closely watched by the city’s construction community, as JDS and Property Markets Group could possibly use an open shop on the job—an unprecedented feat for a residential tower of that height.
Can anyone explain to me what this means?

Although I'm not a fan of NYguy's overzealous moderator douchery over at SkyscraperPage.com, I do appreciate his informative posts. One of them is this balcony view of 111 West 57th showing Cary Grant and Sophia Loren apparently after they travelled through a black & white time portal.
