Superb pics Lex. This thing is a masterpiece!!!
2 takeaways from those renders:
1) I love those thin megatowers , with what I see from 432 Park and what I can expect from this, I wanna see more of them in the city.
2) Nordstrom better not f*** this up cause Steinway and One57 sure make that skyline look good.

^ Makes you wonder what Extell is thinking right now.

Listen to the vid at around 12:20

http://sma.sciarc.edu/video/gregg-pa...ver-ever-dont/

Quote:
But the remarkable thing is there are 10 buildings planned and basically funded and under construction in New York that are taller than the Empire State Building ... that will all be built in the next 5 years. The skyline of the city is radically changing.
Sure sounds intriguing!

My breakdown:

1. One World Trade Center, 1,776ft (541m), [roof 1,368ft / 417m]
2. 217 West 57th Street, 1,775ft (541m) [roof 1,490ft / 454m or 1,550ft / 472m]
3. One Vanderbilt Place, 1,514ft (461m) [roof 1,414ft / 431m]
4. 111 West 57th Street, 1,421ft (433m)
5. 432 Park Avenue, 1,397ft (426m)
6. 125 Greenwich Street, 1,356ft (413m)
7. Two World Trade Center, 1,349ft (411m) [roof 1,270ft / 387m]
8. 30 Hudson Yards, 1,287ft (392m)
9. Empire State Building, 1,250ft (381m), [antenna 1,454ft / 443m]

The Hudson Spire and Shvo's Central Park Tower could yield two 1,300 footers. Or even Manhattan West ...
Or maybe SHoP's coming supertalls are indeed taller than the King!

Also, a solid 1,600 footer to the roof would be great.

I think it will happen much sooner than later tbh. McCourt has everything lined up.

They have the estimated cost to build and selected SHoP architects plus they brought in Hines as a partner. I think you don't do all those things if they don't have any intention to build in the near future.

The biggest hint for me anyway that its sooner is because they brought in Hines.

I gave up trying to pick between those 2. I just have them as 1 and 1a on top of my list on new construction.
I'm just curious who's gonna join the exclusive club. There are plenty of contenders, 125 Greenwhich, "the Hudson Spire", Park Lane, 360 10th, 80 South street... And that's without mentioning 2WTC whenever it gets off the ground and I still have hope for Nordtsrom.

Pasquarelli said that in the night, the terra cotta shadows will be lit up. Even the lighting can compete with Tower Verre now!

It looks like the site is ready to go, I sure hope it gets off the ground soon because this building is awesome!

I thought it was slated to start this year?

lt already is. lf you watch the presentation he says that it is under construction even though it doesn't meet the ssc criteria.

Super... someone had mentioned that it wouldn't start for a while and it made me worried.

Finally had the chance to watch the video. It's very interesting as Marshall touched up on in other posts. In particular, the subject on the , the River esplanade, Seaport, Dominos & of course the Steinway.

Anyways, Gregg Pasquarelli in the lecture mentioned that they have 4 commissions with buildings over 1,000'. (Nice!)

1) 57th (111 West 57th)
2) High line (360 10th)
3) Lower Manhattan (80 South)
4) Brooklyn

The interesting part for me is what Mr. Pasquarelli said afterwards...

"SOME of these go about 1400'."

What did he say?? Some?? Say what?

Does the 57th street tower mean some? Head scratcher.

Or does some mean more than one? Hmmm.

My guess is 360 10th.

cheers cheers cheers!

Btw, very exciting for Brooklyn getting a super tall. That's how it starts folks! You get one then eventually you'll get a couple more. Then fughetaboutit!

l used to work in a building that JDS recently started developing in Chelsea. One of the company reps came to visit the site so l asked him myself. he was surprised that l knew so much about it (thanks to ssc) and he confirmed that it was under construction.

I changed my mind. I think that actually 80 South may be the one that could rise up to 1400'.

It has the same developmental sq footage as the Steinway and we could very well end up a tower very much like it there.

Also, with a tower at 1400' in that location would be a perfect bookend to the WTC complex.

^ Nice. Somehow I missed that part in the vid ... I was too amazed about the other 4 supertalls by ShoP and that 10 buildings are/will be taller than the ESB ...

Also a 1,400 footer at 80 South would create a counterbalance to the WTC and Shvo.

I agree. It was also said recently that Howard Hughes purchased more air rights around the area for a tower opposite of the seaport, we can be sure it's 80 South street so it might have even more sq/ft at this point and could very well end up much larger.

Well depends what we expect to rise on the site. If they decide to go the condo route, sure there is demand but it's been clear in the recent months that the industry is wondering how much of the wave of new constructions that will hit in the next few years it will be able to absorb. It probably will be able to absorb that new inventory but how much more seems to be the big question, that's why some developers are tentative or holding back until we see a clearer picture.
But again my answer should be nuanced cause they might very well go the luxury rentals route, for which demand is rising or even make it a mixed use building in which case it's very possible we can see this one rise soon. So we'll see for sure.
But either way, in case of a condo, I sure hope I'm wrong and you're right and this one rises soon cause I bet it'll be a beauty.
