Well depends what we expect to rise on the site. If they decide to go the condo route, sure there is demand but it's been clear in the recent months that the industry is wondering how much of the wave of new constructions that will hit in the next few years it will be able to absorb. It probably will be able to absorb that new inventory but how much more seems to be the big question, that's why some developers are tentative or holding back until we see a clearer picture.
But again my answer should be nuanced cause they might very well go the luxury rentals route, for which demand is rising or even make it a mixed use building in which case it's very possible we can see this one rise soon. So we'll see for sure.
But either way, in case of a condo, I sure hope I'm wrong and you're right and this one rises soon cause I bet it'll be a beauty.

Wait... I'm confused, are you referring to this tower? I thought it was U/C already? I do see what you're saying though and certainly agree, there are so many of these things popping up that it seems hard to believe that much demand exists. Only in NYC I guess

that conversation was in reference to 360 10th ave, also being designed by Shop.
Rest assured, Steinway IS rising!

Tidbit from Curbed:

Meanwhile, sales at the slenderest tower in the world, SHoP's 111 West 57th Street, will launch in the second quarter of 2015 for an average of about $7,000 per square foot. Perhaps the record-breaking $150M ask slated for the Sony Building penthouse won't be such an outlier for long.

More progress. Small North building has been demolished leaving only West building (the one to the left with lights and white brick on the top) left before foundation work can fully start.

You beat me to my own post desertpunk

More construction updates coming. You can check them all on my Flickr page: https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/

Seriously. Now I go between the garden shed and the spot where the recycling bins are kept and imagine the possibilities!

Finally, that brick wall has been torn down. The two-floor lateral volume is yet to be removed. This should begin soon.

Aren't they also demolishing part of that multistory white brick building in the background? The windows look boarded up.

I think they are only going to remove the facade since the tower will be just against it.

In the video, the architect says that the terracotta is from Germany, is 18-inches wide, and is heavy.

This tower is more like a sculpture, pure art. I'm literally speechless.

This tower is possibly the greatest addition to the New York skyline imo since the Empire State Building. At 1,421' it even exceeds Verre imo. A true icon in the making.

I just updated the German (own article) and Japanese Wiki pages of 111W, so more people can know about this wonderful skyscraper.
