Hello friends! I do a query from Argentina ... LIRR and services MNRR are they really used? Or people move more by collective and private cars?
Whenever I have this doubt, I see pictures, videos of both railways and trains see (even in the rush hour) empty with very few passengers.
I hope that doubt evacuate.
I leave my Facebook page: Trenes de Bs As

All 3 commuter rail agencies (NJT/MNRR/LIRR) carry close to 980,000 people a day. The Busiest line , The New Haven Line carries over 130,000 people a day , double what it carried back in 2005. Most of my photos that I take are offpeak , its easier to get a clean shot and people tend to leave you alone. All 3 Rail agencies have private freight that runs along the lines usually offpeak & overnight to lessen disruptions..

Wednesday, January 06, 2016

NEW YORK state governor Mr Andrew Cuomo has revived plans to construct a third track on a congested section of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Main Line as part of his 2016 agenda, which was announced on January 5

Under the proposals outlined by Cuomo, the 15.7km section from Floral Park to Hicksville, which is used by services from New York to Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay, Ronkonkoma, and Montauk, will be widened from two to three tracks

Cuomo: Penn Station a 'miserable experience,' proposes five options for
overhaul

New Yorkers and visitors alike are going to witness a grand transformation the likes of which New York has not seen in a century.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today that the state is willing to invest billions in infrastructure statewide. An integral part of statewide infrastructure improvements will include accepting proposals for a public-private partnership to completely overhaul Penn Station.

Saying that the station is the most traversed in the hemisphere, Cuomo added that the hub's cavernous, labyrinthine design is counter to New York's spirit. "It is dark. It is constrained. It is dated. It is a lost opportunity," Cuomo declared. "Frankly, it's a miserable experience."

Ya though in watching the Video, it seems Cuomo wants to take a very art of the possible approach instead of a truly build it big option

Well, it all depends upon the proposals they receive, ultimately. I would rather see the State/City take the lead role via the ESD Co., but they really seem to want to shove this off onto the private partner. I'm not sure where the "public" aspect of the partnership comes into play, other than the city forgoing some tax revenue...

The naming of the redeveloped station might become a contentious issue.

By the way, if a mass transit corporation could maintain its railroad facilities well, the station shops can generate as much income as tickets in an international city.

Ya it does seem sketchy, that there will be minimal public design input, because other wise it would be several options such as redeveloping the platform spaces, the LIRR concourse, new entrances at the corners 7th Ave in addition to a new 8th avenue grand entrance, with provisions for Penn Station south
