Maybe one of our NJ Transit gurus can advise on this...

http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/R0040.pdf

If I am heading from Mt Arlington to New York Penn, the one-way ticket is $16. However, if I buy a ticket to Newark and then another one from Newark to New York Penn, it's a total of $15. What's to stop me from doing the latter, and what kind of fool thought that this is the optimal pricing mechanism?

NJT has some of the wacky fare policies in this region , it needs Fare zone reform like SEPTA did a few years ago.

Didn't they also use to offer off-peak fares?

...It's been more than a few years since SEPTA's fare-zone reform, I think.

And yes, SEPTA did have off-peak fares. Now they've extended the peak fares to cover the day, and the lower fares only apply at night.

Anyone hear anything about the LIRR Long Branch SCADA Upgrade? In MTA's capex projection it was slated to happen this year, but nothing has gone out to tender yet.

PTC is integrated into the signalling system. SCADA is for wayside subsystems (station E&M, PA, PI, CCTV, etc).

Does anyone have any information on this renovation (?) I saw the other day at 34th St/Penn Station (pics below)?? Any renderings? Will it just be these few platforms? Seems like it was for LIRR trains.
