San Gioachimo church

(the first four pictures are by Gusme)

sorry for the low quality of the pictures of the dome, the interior is decorated in golden mosaics, I will change the picture no sooner I will find another one better (or rather I go there to shoot a better one )

Wow not just soccer and fashon there! Milan can really compete with the finest european capitals!
Just a question: why many churches? is there a reason for it or it is just "normal" for a country that have the vatican inside?

Thank you so much! Well, when milan was capital of roman empire, in the IV century, Constantine liberalized the christian faith, so that's the main reason for the many well preserved paleo-christian churches...

Here you are an Empereor Constantine's statue in front of San Lorenzo Basilica, very next to the imperial palace where the Edict of Milan was signed in a.D. 313

but beside of that fact I wouldn't say there is an especially high density of churches for italy...naples for instance has 448 ancient churches, rome I woul say at least 5-600...but while both naples and rome are rightly considered two of the richest city in the world for their artistical heritage, Milan is very often underrated, dwarfed by those absolute giants, or Florence and Venice, while according to me it would be deserving something more than just the Dolce&Gabbana image

Santa Maria della Consolazione (o al Castello)

The thread is a bit 'heavy'!

BTW, great idea! Why do not we have anything similar in the Italian Forum!?

Do you mean in the quantity of picture? I know...I've cancelled some of the pictures above. The problems is that many of those little churches aren't well photographed and so I have to choose between the few pictures I find...I guess I will have to go there in person and shoot better pictures... thanks for your opiniono!
