Slight Update:

The pitch must be surrounded by artificial grass, you can not surround it with rubber or pure cement. Polish Football regulations.

THe area between the stands, has to be pretty much
pitch>artificial grass> stands.
It doesnt really change anything though, just a quick re texture.

Dunno, I use podium, I used to use V-ray a long time ago.

I think, you can add lights to your scene and then edit them accordingly, or edit specific materials to your needs.

Ah in Podium its really fun :P

You can create them by:

:: Changing the material properties: changing light power, high intensity makes it way way stronger (light takes colour of material colour).
:: Downloading some light fixtures from podium browser.
:: Or by using the "light system"

How to render at night:
:: Change time of day by typing a time that is at night in sketchup shadow options.
:: If that doesnt work, just put a huge black box around your whole model :-)

Would this be okay, with advertising boards around the pitch?

Exactly the same way you do in Vray, except lights are included in the toolbar
