Maybe they are looking for something that is groundbreaking that is easily identified with Shen Zhen like the Sydney Opera House and Sydney or the Effiel Tower and Paris etc. Something striking.

^Most of them will, as they are already under construction...

...in other cities. Look for the Lotte Tower, Guangzhou IFC and Goldin Finance, for instance. That picture is just a mashup.

Those American developers now seem to really enter the Shenzhen real estate market.
First Silverstein, now MGM. For us skyscraper nerds definitely a good sign.

@z0rg
Do you know if this is the final design?
I hope not, IMO it's too similar to the China Resources supertall in Houhai.

Indeed. On the other hand it's weird that Shenzhen local gov is accepting overseas developers while virtually boycotting non Shenzhen-based domestic developers. Shenzhen deserves Greenland's blessing!

I don't think we have seen the actual design, just a concept layout. 134 floors sounds promising, hopefully 700m+.

if there will be a spire or a big crown 700m+ is very likely.

even if it is concept, i do really lke the design though. it is amazingly tall, has floors that go really up and it tops with a nice not overly done crown. i think it is a great design.

Looks twice the size of Kingkey in the renders, probably due to perspective and/or an overly eager graphic artist.

this perspective makes it the easiest to guess heights. the building is a bit in front of kingkey, but not much, as seen from bird eye perspectives. doesn't even look like 600m anymore, but more like 580m

I think is the perspective, even in real photos, some buildings look much bigger than they are compared to others.

For ex. in this pic, 2IFC seem almost twice as big than BoC.

Considering that the main use will be a hotel, the floor height is lower than a office building, so even 600m/134fl ~4,48m per floor seem about right.

From this video look to be 590-630m, but also it could be even 570m would still tower so much over everything and look much bigger.
