I love how they mention movies set in a dystopian future as a reason to build this.

Indeed . All inhabitants of my hometown could probably live in this tower .

the first design is now on SSP. It seems a bit too wide, but the dimensions of a 650m+ roofheight become clearly visible. This MoFo is a freaking giant.

credit goes to SSP and the artists of the diagrams.

i hope it will, but i have the feeling it is still a long way to go, after all not even the design is clear. it is still a while until it can be approved and even longer until it may start preparation.

but then again, this is china, you never know what could happen. one glimpse of an eye and we see photos of a ground breaking ceremony

You are right! Changsha is in the fast lane, checkout this article about the 'Sky city' to be 838 Meters high and built in 90 days by the Broad Group. These are the guys that build modular pre-fabs.

Re Shanghai slowing down on building skyscrapers, see article about Shanghai sinking. Maybe this is why they are slowing down?

Why not the plot next door? That plot is pull of old, handshaking buildings right? This complex looks alright.

Also, can someone point to me where Dong Men Pedestrian street is relative to all this construction?

Re the plot---that's where the high rise goes, in the lower center of the picture. It looked to me like the building would go in front of the cluster of 3 bank/hotel buildings at the corner of Shenan Rd and Hongling Rd where there's a big parking lot and lotsa trees. Would they tear down the bank/hotel buildings to erect this skyscraper? The 'low-rise' part goes across Shenan Rd, towards bottom of the picture. (Shenan Rd runs diagonally from center bottom to right center of picture) The road in the center of the picture is Hongling Rd looking South. Re Dongmen, you go left (North) on Shenan Rd about a mile down on the left side. You can take the subway from the Grand Theatre station next stop is Dongmen. You can also take the #10 bus.

Shenzhen is a boxy-building heaven.

Seriously, that height...and that awesome design makes it an epic win, imo.

its insane! maybe at the wrong location, it will ruin the other nice tower there (kinkey). but until this would be ready, im sure a certain bubble will have burst and we wont see many more supertalls in china for some time. ok, china is super huge, but that still doesnt give a need to build supertalls in every city. this is 99% for prestige and not for actual needs. im getting skeptical how many of the now proposed super- or megatalls will acutally get build. just do the math and see how much office space is getting built just at these supertalls (and that space wont be cheap!). are all these projects allready fully leased? i wonder how much floorspace of just finished supertalls is empty? are there such numbers? for example kinkey?

i don't think it is in the wrong location, it will make the three towers look like a staircase to each other, like the pudong of the pearl river delta

Kingkey to renovate Caiwuwei

NEARLY 90 percent of shareholders for the urban village stock company of Caiwuwei, a financial hub in Luohu District, have agreed to select Shenzhen-based developer Kingkey Group to renovate the village.

Kingkey previously developed the city’s tallest building, the Kingkey 100, also in Luohu. The Caiwuwei village renovation will cover 120,000 square meters and include the demolition of a landmark hotel, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday, citing district reconstruction bureau chief Wang Cefei.

The village improvements will be part of Kingkey’s massive renovation project covering the entire Caiwuwei area, bordered by the Mixc shopping center to the east, Hongling Road to the west, Binhe Road to the south and Hongbao Road to the north.

Wang said the area’s renovation is the highlight of Luohu’s ongoing efforts to turn itself into an international consumption center. The area will host top international fashion institutions and brands, Wang added.

The renovations will include demolition of the Hotel Oriental Regent, which used to be one of Shenzhen’s 10 signature buildings. The Regent is expected to be replaced by a new landmark structure, the Daily said.

District officials plan to invest 100 billion yuan (US$16 billion) in the next five years to renovate five major areas: Caiwuwei, Sungang-Qingshuihe, Shuibei-Buxin, Shennandong and Liantang. The 48 renovation projects will add a total of 7.5 million square meters of commercial and industrial space, earlier reports by local Chinese-language newspapers said.

for me the main tower looks about the size of kingkey. so it is impressive, but no where near as good as the 666m monster we are anticipating
