Arcologies are now being built, for real?

Seriously, this is one bad project. It looks like a reject from the Jetsons.

According to the french article HERE, the project has been approved by the local government...

I don't know if I like the design.
I love Venice but I don't know if that's a bad thing for the city or not. It won't be built exactly in Venice I think.
So I think that when people will be in the city won't see it and won't think about it.

At least, I hope so.

It will be built in the inlands (Marghera), near the station of Mestre. It will be seen from the port area of Venice (Tronchetto), not from the city center.

I personally don't like the project, but in this historical moment Venice can't decline this kind of offer.

P.S. yes, the project has been approved, they're just waiting for the final authorization by ENAC, the national aviation authority, since the tower could interfere with the flight paths of the Marco Polo airport. According to rumours, though, ENAC is likely to say yes.

Pierre Cardin unveiled his project on monday 27 august. The project will cost 2 billion €, & for a 100 sq metre flat, you'll have to spend 2 million €. As you can see in the following video, the tower will definitely be visible from Venice's city centre.

visible from the Campanile di san Marco of course, not from ground level or Rialto bridge. I don't know if that rendering from the Giudecca canal is realistic. But the south bank of the Giudecca canal doesn't really belong to the center of Venice

So I don't know what to think about this project...
I think it will be built so wait and see.

The first video says that apartments will be ready in 3 years. Short timing no?

Not in Venice...on the mainland.

Close to the Mestre Railway Station. 4 miles away from the Venice arcipelago.

The area now as it can be seen from Venice:

It can't really get worse

I went in Venice this summer and I have to admit that this area is quite far from Venice. It looks to be close on this pics but it's certainly because of perspective.

And this industrial area (which really looks bad) is only visible from the entrance of the city (the horrible big parking) or maybe from the highest points of Venice.

Moreover the big touristic boats may hide the building.

This building is starting to grow on me. It will provide a nice, modern contrast to the completely classical Venice, which is always good. It's not too close to the city center, either, so not many people will see it anyways. Build it.

I don't understand why you don't like this project or what you dislike of the building. It's simply amazing and so beautiful, this skyscraper could be a new beggining for Venice, it could start a new modern area opposed to the historical center, creating a surprising contrast

Good news, Enac said yes. The airport proximity has ceased to be an issue. it was kind of clear since the very beginning, since the project site is well distant from the landing patterns...

Pierre Cardin was invited a few minutes ago to the french show "Ce soir ou jamais" to promote his Palais Lumière. He said he has been almost granted all the agreements from the city of Venice, the very last one being to be signed on December 3rd.

Yes, it's way closer...(HP is very far from coming true owing to France's very long & fastidious judiciary procedure)
