#PROJECT-Ras Al Khaimah: REAL-MADRIDLAND
Real Madrid to open theme park in UAE
Los Blancos president Florentino Perez will disclose the details of the project at a press conference which will be attended by a number of the club's star players 21-Mar-2012 1:34:00 AM By Alberto Pinero Real Madrid will on Thursday announce plans to open their own theme park in United Arab Emirates. Its construction will be officially confirmed at a press conference at the Santiago Bernabeu, which is expected to be attended by club president Florentino Perez and a representative of Ras Al Khaimah's government, as well as several members of Los Blancos' first-team squad. The theme park will be the main attraction on the planned 'Real Madrid Resort Island', a project which the club have been working on for the past six months in the strictest secrecy. The Liga giants have already gone public, though, with their intention to build a theme park in Valdebebas, which is located to the north east of the Spanish capital. As part of Perez's ambitions plans for the club, the Madrid president has also given the go-ahead for the Santiago Bernabeu to be given a facelift which will result in the exterior of the stadium being given 'a skin' akin to the one which is wrapped around Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena. http://www.goal.com/en-india/news/13...me-park-in-uae |

Emirate plans Real Madrid theme park
(AFP) – 1 hour ago
MADRID — Real Madrid football club will spread its brand to the Middle East and Asia by lending its name to a $1 billion theme park on a man-made island in the United Arab Emirates, it said on Thursday. Executives unveiled plans for the "Real Madrid Resort Island", featuring an oceanside stadium and hi-tech club museum in the northern Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah, on the doorstep of the lucrative football-mad Asian market. "Real Madrid Resort Island will be a major tourist and sporting centre of great dimensions and the highest level," club president Florentino Perez told a news conference. "This extraordinary complex will attract millions of people looking for quality leisure services," he added at the event, also attended by Real players including captain Iker Casillas and striker Karim Benzema. "This is a decisive and strategic step which contributes to strengthening our institution in the Middle East and Asia," Perez said. "Real Madrid will be present permanently in a key region of the world." The complex, with $1 billion (758 million euros) of investment and backed by the government of the Emirate, is scheduled to open in January 2015, the club and executives said. It will include a five-star hotel, beachside bungalows and an amusement park with a rollercoaster and hologram show recreating Real Madrid's goals. Sports facilities will include training pitches and swimming pools plus a marina for yachting, as well as the 10,000-seat football stadium open on one side to a view of the sea. Benzema and fellow French football ace and Real hero Zinedine Zidane posed holding white team shirts bearing the logo of the resort, along with coach Jose Mourinho, goalkeeper Casillas and defender Sergio Ramos. Executives of the investment group behind the project, the RAK Marjan Island Football Investment Fund, said its location, 45 minutes from Dubai airport, put it in reach of 2.0 million visitors. "The Emirates and Ras Al Khaimah is really the gateway to the Middle East and to Asia and that's really our target here today," said Louis Armand de Rouge, a French executive on the project. Rouge said that more than half of Real Madrid's 300 million fans were in Asia. "Football is the most popular sport in the world (and) Asia is also the world's fastest growing sports market," he said. Real Madrid ranked top this year in the Money League of richest football clubs published by consultancy Deloitte, with revenues of 480 million euros in the 2010-2011 season. They currently sit six points ahead of fierce rivals Barcelona at the top of the Spanish league. Copyright © 2012 AFP. All rights reserved source ![]() ![]()

Call me an old cynic but they have only allowed use of their name - it will be up to others to raise the finance to build. It is an ambitious project but delivery is stated as 2015. Other high profile stars have done similar things - remember Boris Becker Tennis Academy on AL Marjan - not a brick laid.

I'm finding it a bit odd that I can't find anything on "The National" website - you think this would be a big story for the UAE - clearly not?

Boris Becker, Tiger Woods, Senna etc etc - just more 'famous names' whose owners will be paid huge sums for their branding rights. Whether the resort will ever get built (whether on the original or on alesser scale) is of course an entirely different matter. There is a huge amount of money that needs to be raised by the developer before this one becomes reality!

Is this a flashback? Are we back to 2007? Now who will believe this after all the cancelled projects where so many lost their money? The government of RAK can better invest in the stalled projects and try to regain customer confidence than another "blown up" marketing stunt of which we have seen so many of. pfff I'm really tired of this crap. I thought everybody learned his lesson by now but somehow not everyone.
