![]() I don't know. If you are a convention delegate and need to get to the Peabody or Hilton, etc., a cab can cost more, and a rental is going to be expensive. the only cheap car rentals I've seen are from Enterprise when they have a deal with a garage after you've been in an accident, and you still pay $$$ per day, not to mention an extra $10-12/day for insurance if you so choose. I've got a buddy at Mears and OIA to Winter Park is like $55. Half that distance would cost between $25-30. That's about the distance from OIA to OCCC. That's an expensive cab ride by comparison. I think the price is decent considering. We can't apply the NYC Subway rate standard or MARTA to this line... Convention business can drive this thing along with tourism. Locals won't use it that much. Tourists pay through the roof for certain services wherever you go. If they can build it, connecting OIA to Florida Mall to the OCCC could be very successful, as long as the stations are well placed. I'm assuming there would be a SLR station as well to connect to Sunrail, unless Sunrail goes to OIA thru Taft. Last edited by jzquince69; June 29th, 2012 at 10:56 PM. |

But what would be the point in having the connector if MAGLEV is strictly for tourist and SunRail is for Locals? It makes no sense for a connector then. Nobody will be transferring. Everybody seems to not be looking at this transportation as a whole for citizens, thats where this city continues to go wrong.

Well, if I took Sunrail from downtown to get to the Fla Mall, that could be expensive ala Maglev connector. Or not, the price of a gallon of gas is $3.50 to $4.00. SLR to Fla Mall wouldn't be $12, it would be something like $6.00 I gather.

Lets look at it. Lynx Downtown to Florida Mall? Link 4 $2 about 30-45 minutes Link 441 (during certain times) $2 15 minutes Link 7 $2 30-40 minutes SunRail Then Maglev 30-40 minutes, about $15 SunRail Then Lynx 30-60 minutes $5 Not worth it. Red highlight is the best option from downtown to Florida mal. Now Florida Mall to downtown, thats a different story.

![]() true, but i thought its $12 from OIA to the OCCC. SLR/Sunrail to Fla Mall ala Maglev is like 1/3 the distance so I'm assuming its less than half the price, unless its a flat fee. |

If Sunrail does not go to OIA then there is also a ready market for people to use a Sunrail/Maglev combo to get to OIA as it is cheaper than parking over a few days. Now if Sunrail does go to OIA then that is another story.

Wow, they're clearly not messing around if they are going with SOM. If you're not familiar with this company, then I suggest you check out their previous transportation projects.

I'm beginning to get the feeling that this is really going to happen. If so, it will beat the hell out of California's 'Train to Nowhere' as a viable model for rail transit in the new economy.

I really hope that this will lead to Tri-Rail expansions. There's talk of expansions from MIA to MetroZoo and along the FEC Line up to Jupiter. All of the projects are financially feasible. We could theoretically get 20+ new Tri-Rail stops in three or four years. That combined with the new "high" speed line to Orlando could provide the impetus for a rail resurgence in the state.

I REAAALLLY hope that this goes through, goes well, and works. Hopefully once it get going they will add the ORL-TPA route. That would be a pretty fast build out if the state provides the ROW for the line. Which, since HSR is dead, should be a no brainer.

I wonder if the state gave them the ROW right now, they would just add the ORL-TPA line to the overall project?
