Roskilde, a town located in the eastern part of Zealand on the borderline to the Capital region. It's the biggest town in Region Sjælland (820,000 inhb.) with its 83,000 inhabitants in the municipality and 47,000 people in the city itself.

Roskilde is among the most attractive towns on Zealand. The city is the most sought for residential in Denmark, No. 2 on list of most attractive cities to start a shop in, and the third most in demand by companies to settle in. At the same time, Roskilde got the largest population growth in the Copenhagen area.
Since the city also has relatively much land to build on, there are very good framework for development and a near perfect background for a number of major urban development projects and other important projects, which shall be prepared in the city. Several commence in 2012.

* Red Port project to 2 billion. It has been underway for some years and has come a step closer construction after being approved by City Council in November 2011.

* A new development area of ​​110,000 sqm. by Trekronorstationen has just been approved with space for offices and shops.

2012 will be the breakthrough year for another huge project - the Science Park at Risø. Behind the research park to attract clean tech companies from around the world, stands DTU, Roskilde Municipality, RUC and Region Zealand.

Other development projects under way are:

* Musicon to over 5 billion DDK. - A whole new town with approx. 650 homes and about 2,000 jobs in the cultural sector , where the district is fully developed in 10-15 years.

* On Musicongrunden must in future begin construction of the Rockmagneten, with particular Denmark's new rock museum to approx. 200 million.

* Conversion of Sortebrødre Plads with space for construction of a total of 10,000 sqm. shops, offices, housings, culture, and a car park of 16,000 sqm.

Significant individual projects are:

* Extension of St. Hans Hospital with 24,000 sqm. with an anticipated construction start in 2013.

* The building of 17,000 sqm. Roskilde Technical School. School coupled with the Musicon area. Expected construction start in 2012.

* Courthouse to approx. 100 million DDK. with construction start in 2012.

* Roskilde Ring Company House to approx. DKK 100 million with construction started in December 2011

* Bauhaus to approx. 50 million DDK. with construction starting in 2012.

* Extension of Roskildehallerne to approx. 50 million DDK. with construction starting in 2012.

* Domicile to Roskilde Group approx. 40 million DDK. starting in 2014.

* Energitårnet, ongoing and completed 2013

The Roskildebased energy company KARA/NOVEREN started an investment of 1,3 billion dkr. in a new powerplant supplying 60.000 houses with CO2 neutral energy. Construction 2011.
I love the form of this project, designed by Dutch architect Erick van Egeraat.

Yes, it's rolling.



Though have to admit my associations are more for a "Dino" than a Dome, but you're probably right, the architects must have been inspired by the Domkirke while they were here

Off Topic - Let's get it over... THE FESTIVAL

In my research about the city and the development I found this sunny early evening aerial picture from a festival taken by Tuborg, which also suppose to be the sponsor of beers and the famous Orange Scene which is the largest performance stage at the festival

70,000 people pilgramages every year to the music festival that began in 1971.
All inclusive ( volunteers, workers, musicians etc.) the festival is home for more than 130,000 people for 1-2 weeks.
This is big money in the box for shops and the municipality of Roskilde.

I´m sorry to say this but the photo is fake because the Tuborg pool was situated behind the grand stand and not in front of it.

The grand stand is just out of the picture opposite the Orange stage.

Maybe a bit cheeky to categorize this one in the Roskilde thread in spite it's location, though we're in the no-where-land between Roskilde and Høje-Taastrup. 300 m from the Roskilde municipality line, and still in the municipality of Høje-Taastrup. Sorry Ramblersen

The HQ will be 13,000 m2 + 19,000 m2 of distribution centre, and will be home for 700 employees in this huge company of a total of 22,000 employees. It's designed by PLH Architects and is completed in 2013.

I am a diehard, patriotic Høje-Tåstrup'er now?

Rabalderparken, Musicon's 40,000 sqm recreational space, will incorporate a system of canals and basins for collecting rainwater and in the same time doubling as a skater facility. It is designed by Søren Nordahl Enevoldsen who also designed the new skaterpark in Gælledparken.

Off topic.. I visited a friend that lives in Essex Park Musicon (the white buildings top-left of the picture) a couple of weeks ago and just missed by 30 mins. that one of the apartments was on fire.. Evacuation, Tv2-Lorry, firetrucks.. The whole works. Anyhow, totally off-topic.

Risø Park
Risø Park is a planned science/business park for cleantech companies which will belocated between Risø and Eoskilde. Cobe won the masterplan competition last year with a plan which resembles a rock guitar defined by a tree-lined avenue. Fully developped, it will be home to 5,000 jobs and supposedly a number of international companies have already shown interest in settling in the area which may already go under construction this year - provided that the project receives a dispensation from the Minister of Environmental Affairs.

Helsingør, Hillerød, Roskilde and Køge was up to year 2006 a part of HUR(hovedstadens udviklingsråd) which managed traffic and urban planning in the metropolitan area.
So I think it is fair that these cities belongs to the Copenhagen subforum.
