Sometimes I get puzzled why they stop at 59, what was in that one floor to make it 60? The other skyscraper is stuck at 62, once crossed 60 they could have made it to 70. But what's the meaning of 62, 59, I don't understand

Also can someone post it in PS Blog and ask for authentication of such a splendid news. I hate getting upset later on.

Bengal scouts for foreign players in upcoming financial hub
Set to conduct road shows in UK, Singapore, Hong Kong in order to invite banks for becoming a part of upcoming financial hub
Shine Jacob / Kolkata Dec 18, 2012, 20:00 IST

Even as the West Bengal government had been opposing FDI in retail, it is scouting for investments from banks and other financial institutions from the United Kingdom, Singapore and Hong Kong to be a part of the state’s upcoming financial hub.

The state government is set to conduct road shows in these countries, in order to invite banks for becoming a part of the upcoming international financial hub at Rajarhat area, in the outskirts of Kolkata.

State officials have already visited London in this regard. “We will invite an expression of interest from global firms in this regard by March next year and will conduct road shows in major financial hubs across the world, like Singapore and Hong Kong,” said Debashis Sen, chairman and managing director of Hidco, the real estate arm of state government, which is developing the project.
The hub is similar to that of Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai. In the first round of bidding for nine plots for 25 acres of land, closed on October 31, only five firms showed interest. Meanwhile, the second stage of bidding will be over by January 31.

“As of now, State Bank of India, UBI, UCO Bank, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Allahabad Bank, West Bengal Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation, West Bengal Finance Corporation and National Insurance have shown interest in the hub,” urban development minister Firhad Hakim said.

The hub area will include a 59-storeyed building and also a convention centre with a capacity of 6,000 people at a time.

Phase three of global financial hub to lure foreign direct investment
TNN | Dec 19, 2012, 04.12 AM IST

KOLKATA: The state government is striving to make the upcoming International Financial Hub truly international and will earmark the third phase of the hub for foreign direct investment (FDI).
Urban development minister Firhad (Bobby) Hakim said on Tuesday that the government has already got nine financial companies in the first phase and expects good response for the second phase, too. The second phase of the project will be housed in an iconic 34-storied structure, which is likely to be the second tallest building in Kolkata after the 36-storied South City.

The minister was interacting with reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on financial hub organized by Assocham and the state government. The companies that are acquiring land at the hub or are in the process of doing so are UCO Bank, United Bank of India, National Insurance Company, State Bank of India, WBFC, WBIDFC, Calcutta Stock Exchange, Allahabad Bank and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). "We shall organize road shows in Singapore in the third phase to attract foreign companies," said Hakim.

Urban development secretary Debashis Sen argued that the possibility of getting foreign companies at the hub was very high. "It depends on the manpower cost and the cost of living, which are much lower here compared to Singapore or Hong Kong. We can expect to generate back office jobs for the financial institutions," he added. Sen indicated that IT companies could be allowed to do the back office jobs for the financial institutions at the hub.

The last date for submitting applications to take part in the second phase of the project has been fixed on January 31 next year. "We shall float a tender for appointing an architect firm for the 34-storied iconic building," said Sen.

Earlier, Nasscom (eastern region) head Suparna Moitra had suggested that the state should consider IT companies engaged in financial jobs for the hub. Incidentally, in the second phase, the authorities want to hand over six vacant plots in the financial hub having an area of 12.5 acres on a leasehold basis for 99 years.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had launched the financial hub project earlier this year and the state government has been lobbying hard to attract investments. However, the initial response was very lukewarm.

Very low quality reporting by TNN, by the time this building will be completed(if), neither South City will be the tallest nor this very building will be the second tallest building in the city.
