Kenya to commission her first Nuclear Power Plant in 10 years
The Nuclear Electricity Project Committee has rolled out a project in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency to build the human resource capacity for the nuclear power programme in Kenya. The Project will run for the next two years. The government has already sponsored 6 Kenyans to undertake nuclear studies abroad to increase its technical capacity as it seeks to adopt nuclear power as a supplement to its existing power mix.

As of now KenGen is heavily focused on Geothermal power generation.I am sure they will have interests in nuclear power in the future.

Why not go for renewable energies instead of this? Kenya as I understand has massive geothermal capacity

Geo thermal generation is in high gear so is wind power but the capacity is still not enough based on their projection.

Already the biggest producer in Africa and 7th in the world but its still not enough.Wind pontential is there but its too expensive. The only other option will be coal powered plants but thats even more disastrous for the environment.

It's a necessary move - most African countries will probably go the same way. I just hope they really train those engineers well so that no disasters occur.

Ten years, perhaps not, but there is nothing stopping them from commissioning at least one plant in the next 15-20 years.
