Wow some of these were crazy good, and others were crazy bad! Here are a few comments/thoughts...

1. Was the airport on the west side ever a serious proposal?
2. Any more info on the Broadway/Church building?
3.Why was television city never built?
4. The MSG towers could have been amazing, sad they didn't get built.
5. What the hell were the "dome" and Manhattan Canopy all about? Were they visions or were they actual proposals?

Why not? The Citicorp Building in Midtown looks much larger than that and has a similar base.

Reminds me of the good old Guardian building in Detroit. And what an absurd crown!

East Cove development plan 1980

"The first project undertaken by [Raphael] Viñoly’s nascent New York practice was a master plan for a residential development on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The plan called for four high-rise towers sited on 30 acres of landfill along the East River. The towers, to house middle-income and luxury apartments, would have been surrounded by a landscaped park including a recreational marina."

Times square by Phillip Johnson

When the idea of redeveloping Times Square gained momentum in the early 1980s, Phillip Johnson was commissioned to come up with a massive scheme to redo the bowtie. His result was a horrible quartet of faux-Victorian towers which would have instantly killed the square and all life forms for blocks around. Fortunately the 1984 plans went nowhere and T.S. was ultimately redone piecemeal and with much more vitality.

Emory Roth apartment building, Washington Sq. 1929

This monster would have crushed the neighborhood had the Depression not intervened.
