As my knowledge from various sources, the area is a superblock shopping centre, combining dp mall and pemuda square/citywalk (?)

Yup, its completed, located just beside lawang sewu. I wonder how Pemuda will looks in the next two years from now.

Ibis and Gumaya are located on the same street, Jalan Gajahmada, According to my mom's friend who owned the Hotel, its around 14-16 floor could be more if the city council agrees...but thats what she said six days ago, the Hotel is now reaching 9th floor.

While i only saw crane at Ibis a week ago but no construction progress whatsoever, the site is pretty much small and its located just behind Ciputra Hotel and Mall.

New Mall project soon going to be launched, Called Paragon City Mall, its located in Jalan Pemuda (on the same street with the newly project being constructed DP mall)

Paragon city will have Holiday Inn Hotel, Hypermarket and some other high class tenant (possibly). I just looked at the rendering, its awesome design.

Enam Hotel Baru Akan Berdiri di Semarang

Semarang, CyberNews. Kota Semarang agaknya makin memikat investor. Setelah izin pendirian dua hotel berbintang diajukan tahun ini, jumlah itu akan bertambah lagi tahun 2007 mendatang. Dinas Tata Kota dan Permukiman memaparkan, setidaknya ada enam hotel berbintang baru yang akan dibangun.

Kasi Penataan Bangunan dan Kawasan DTKP Ir Irwansyah MT mengungkapkan, keenam hotel itu akan didirikan di tiga jalan besar. Yakni, dua bangunan di Jl Gajahmada, tiga hotel di Jl Pemuda, dan satu unit di Jl MT Haryono. Gedung yang terletak di Kawasan Sayangan (dekat Gedung BNI 46), Jl MT Haryono itu, sebenarnya merupakan Hotel Candra Buana yang pembangunannya sempat terhenti akibat krisis moneter tahun 1997 lalu.

''Mulai tahun 2005 lalu, pengajuan izin hotel memang terus bertambah. Bahkan, konsepnya ada yang digabung dengan pusat perbelanjaan, seperti rencana Duta Pertiwi (DP) Mall dan Paragon City. Keduanya di Jl Pemuda. Semua izin hotel baru itu untuk tahun depan,'' ujar Irwansyah, Selasa (5/12).

Kendati ada beberapa izin yang akan diajukan, Irwansyah mengaku pihaknya belum mengetahui secara pasti seluruh investor dan nama hotel yang akan diajukan. Salah satu, izin hotel yang sudah diketahui adalah rencana Hotel Ibis di Jl Gajahmada yang berbintang tiga. Dikatakan, semua hotel itu nantinya berkisar antara bintang tiga hingga lima. Investor yang sudah mengajukan status bintang lima adalah Hotel Gumaya Palace di Jl Gajahmada.

Industri jasa perhotelan, lanjut dia, belakangan ini memang makin agresif. Tak cuma bangunan baru, beberapa hotel lama juga tengah mengajukan izin. Di antaranya, Hotel Quirin yang juga terletak di Jl Gajahmada saat ini telah mengajukan penambahan kamar meski jumlahnya terbatas lantaran ketersediaan lahan parkir. ''Tiap tahun, ada penambahan paling tidak 2-3 hotel,'' ujarnya.

Sementara itu, mengenai rencana pengalihfungsian Lawang Sewu sebagai hotel, Irwansyah mengatakan pihaknya sebenarnya telah menerima pengajuan izin. Akan tetapi, lantaran terkait dengan status sebagai bangunan konservasi, investor akhirnya berpikir ulang. Padahal, PT Kereta Api (KA) sudah berusaha mengundang investor yang berminat mengelola gedung kuno itu.

''Sebenarnya, investor tidak perlu khawatir. Karena untuk mengembangkan hotel, mereka bisa memanfaatkan lahan kosong yang masih ada tanpa mengganggu bangunan lama yang dikonservasi,'' ujarnya.

Tahun lalu, DTKP pernah mengemukakan, bahwa ada tambahan hotel baru yang akan dibangun yakni Hotel Java Heritage di eks Wisma PHI Jalan Wahid Hasyim dan Hotel Afta di Jalan Pandanaran. Keduanya saat ini tengah dalam proses pembangunan.

Sorry, Its in Hard copy, semarang metro on suaramerdeka monday 26th of feb 2007. for description, the building looked like bling bling with so many flashy colors...lol

What's Lawang Sewu?? is it THE MOST FAMOUS HISTORICAL BUILDING IN SEMARANG WHO HAS RED TOP??? oh noooooooooooooooooooo!!!

No, lawang sewu is the kingdom of setan hahaha.....if you dare to stay in their basement (or ex japanese/dutch tunnel), overnight there, i give you two krispy kreme doughnuts :P
