I know, but just seeing 'TORONTO' under the 'Supertalls' section is a sight to behold. To see it downgraded, even though we never knew the official height until now, is depressing.

It's been frustrating waiting for the big one, but it will happen eventually. 310m isn't really going to do it though. As far as I'm concerned, 'super tall' isn't much more than what we already have since First Canadian Place is 298 m. The big one will have to be about 380m to give Toronto that exclamation point and counterbalance to the CN Tower.

Toronto is screaming out for a big muscular skyscraper. Maybe on the southwest corner of Yonge & Bloor we'll get an unapologetically monstrous 380m beast.

The proportions of that drawing are unrealistic:

It does seem almost certain that the height of 277m to the top of the mechanical box is close to the actual height.

A depiction of how 50 Bloor St. West will look in the skyline. It's the tallest building in this shot.

Would be nice to have this one built before the Pan American Games in 2015. It's not a high profile event in Canada or the US, but it gets quite a lot of attention in the rest of America. Toronto will be in the spot light from Mexico to Chile.

An article on how this fits the cities zoning almost perfectly. (the city can't really complain about it, as it perfectly fits what they want to be built in this city.

Quote:
In a report accompanying the proposal, consultants for Morguard make a painstaking case for the conformity of the design to every rule laid down by the province and the city. These requirements are detailed and legion, by the way. They spring from recent official concerns with matters ranging from height and shadows to “greenness” and traffic and view corridors. (For anyone interested in better understanding the hurdles high-rise developers have to vault across, this rationale, available on line at the city’s Web site, makes useful reading.)

I leave it up to the experts at city hall to decide if the scheme satisfies the elaborate official expectations. But, for what it’s worth, I am impressed by how carefully Morguard and their consultants argue for this proposal. The skyscraper seems to fit the bill perfectly.

17. 460 Yonge - 207m

If all the proposals get built, Toronto could move into 5th spot globally when it comes to 200m+ buildings. As of January 1, 2012 the top 6 were Dubai (63), Hong Kong (61), New York (53), Shanghai (46), Chicago and Shenzhen tied (27). Chicago and Shenzhen will get bounced unless they go on a major building spree.

Shenzhen will wipe the floor with Toronto. Its having a mega-building boom. Toronto however is impressive in its own right.

I had my suspicions. How many 200m+ is Shenzhen planning? I find it hard to get reliable information about Chinese construction. That said, 6th would be quite an accomplishment for a relatively small city like Toronto.

Dubai and Hong Kong don't have over 60 200m+ towers.

Both cities have just 40-50. NYC has still the most at 53.
