Reconstructing is one of the best forms of urban planning that a city/village etc. can have, lost structures with much importance for a city always have to return.

Example: when your house (partially) burns down to the ground, would you like to reconstruct your house to the original one or a complete new structure where nothing reminds you of what your old house was like?

In my opinion, I would get my house reconstructed. Don't say with some shitty short-minded thoughts that the whole world can get back to the pre-history. Building modern concrete structures everything something burns down or gets raid in a war; bogus, as you said. Total bullshit.

This assumes that architecture (specifically low-rise) is superior today than it was a century ago, yet most people disagree.

Any successful civilization moves two steps forward and one step back, taking the best from the past in order to have an even better future. It seems increasingly, that especially amongst the majority of people, the ornate and beautiful architecture of our past has been decided as superior. It is better for humans, and is in desperate need of revival and reconstruction.

People talk about being progressive, this IS progressive. People need to get their heads out of the 1960's when it comes to architecture. This dogmatic opposition to change by modernists is a little ridiculous.

That's so true, people that are anti-rebuilding and always talking about modernism and that kind of stuff are the ones who have been stucked in time. Times are changing and rebuilding indeed IS progressive.

Kinda funny if you think about it.

You are right of course. It was this modernism mentality that destroyed so much, especially in Europe after WW2, that could and should have been rebuilt. Its taken about half a century to begin to repair a lot of the damage done by architects in the post war decades but at least it is being done and my guess it will be unstoppable now that people can finally see the failure of so-called modernism.

The excitement and enthusiasm the public often has with these projects just goes to show how much support it has.

People LOVE seeing ornate traditional structures go up. It gives them a sense of pride and a feeling of progression. I believe more and more people will be demanding these beautiful buildings as time goes on.

Nice job! This area will be magnificent.

But for real succes they should demolish the modern hoteltower near the main building, followed by the demolition of the library on the other side.

The facade looks quite bland without all the statues of the original version. Why the hell did they cancel those

[email protected]: Most of the statues weren't included in the splendid donation by SAP founder Hasso Plattner.

They could be reconstructed and added later. But somehow, there's rumors that the architect Kulka (s.o. screw this guy!) caused that the roof couldn't support the sculptures...

Erbse, only the statues in the inner court yard won't return. The statues around the outer facades will come back and restoration on some of them (thanks to donations) has already started.

Yes, I was just at the location and toured the exhibit and spoke with the director. The statues above the west and east corners will be in place.

Maybe they were too expensive. It's even worse that many of the originals could probably have been salvaged when the shell of the palace was demolished in the 1960s.
